The discernment I have learned through Spirituality, enables me to cut through the superficial like a hot knife through butter and thus I realise that getting involved in petty squabbling for the sake of an opinion is a total waste of my time and effort..which has also led me to tolerance in the form of me just minding my own business and telling others to do likewise.

As such, I have grown accustomed to being a "lone wolf" which was difficult at first, but I also became aware of all the attachments I wouldn't have to worry about giving up because I would not be forming them in the first place and that, in itself was a comforting thought.

I have learned to love myself for who I am and not who others want me to be, even at the risk of being a social outcast because I am never alone, as there are those who walk beside me, even if others cannot see them and one day, when my existence on this physical plane is over, I shall be joining them...my spirit guides and ancestors who reside in a totally different dimension.

Well said ,my belief entirely.

Ps...Hope you are getting yourself back together OK after the current events in Australia.

First, our new friend here, I haven't thought of my path as 'unlocking my true self', ha - Nothing wrong with that phrase.
What keeps me focused on God? The Divine Presence? The One? That - I could answer...

Need.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

I guess this one is quite different for me in each phase of life. And rather than “finding your true self”, “survive and thrive”.

Keeping my imagination close. At some point it left me.
Keeping my values and norms close to me. But at some point I had to change them or they changed.
Keeping my emotions close to me. Right now I have to open up to creative and intuitive sides too. While developing my rational sides.

Wow, very well thought out and interesting responses. I appreciate the time and energy you spent responding to my original post.
Its refreshing to be able to have a discussion with other seekers. That's just what the yogi ordered. Thanks everyone.
