Speaking a different language in sleep

This happened a few years ago, but I haven't gotten any closer to an answer or come across someone that has done the same.

I frequently talk in my sleep, I have since I was a child. I used to sleep walk but stopped in my teenage years. One night, I woke up my boyfriend talking in my sleep. However he told me I was speaking in a different language. He said he listened for awhile and was sure it wasn't gibberish. Apparently it sounded like I was in a conversation; Pausing for responses, laughing here and there and speaking a language fluently. I only speak English. My boyfriend said it sounded like an ancient language no one speaks anymore.

I tried looking up a few YouTube videos of languages for him to compare, but they were all a no go. Has anyone done this, experienced this or heard of it?

Edit: I had no recollection of my dreams the next morning. If that helps.

I'm familiar with why we talk in our sleep, I have heard that speaking an unknown language in sleep can be connected with communicating with spirit, a past life, etc. That's what I was getting at and wondering of anyone has heard of this or experienced it.

it's odd that you'd had no recollection of the event... it's almost as if you
weren't involved. could it have been your 'higher self' in conversation with
some 3rd party?

i've not spoken a different language, but i do have an accent in my dreams. i've also talked in my sleep as well. I'll agree, it could have something to do with a past life. I'm new to a lot of this, but everything i've come across points me to past lives over and over. If it's anything like my past life/dream experiences, you'll start remembering dreams more and more. Deja vus. all that fun stuff. I started a dream journal not too far back. I've got random poems i can barely read thanks to awesome handwriting (haha) and then whatever i can remember in the morning.

My ex wife told me once, even a big afraid, that I would talk in my sleep with a different voice, very guttural and in a very strange language
I have no idea what it means, and I think that maybe I was having a nightmare

I do wonder if the dream is related to a past life. If this is true, I would guess that the dream involved either; A scenario from a past life where I happened to talk out loud in a past language or I was discussing something regarding a past life with.... Someone? It's quite interesting to contemplate the answer. I wish I had remembered even a little bit from the dream. I can't help but think I wasn't supposed to remember the dream content. Too many unanswered questions.
