Ghost Noises, etc. Consciously Made?

This just occurred to me watching a (somewhat hokey) ghost-hunting show.

When the ghosts make sounds like footsteps or door opening, is that because they now know that they are "dead" and their bodies don't causes these 3D phenomena anymore--so they learn how to do it?

Or are they just unknowingly creating what they expect to hear/see/feel?

It's kind of random but gets to the knowledge of those who have passed.

I have heard and seen what seem to be instances where the spirit will learn how to cause physical harm to humans. So that spirit definitely knows they are not physical anymore (and want to cause harm). But for the run-of-the-mill ghost, slamming doors, making footsteps--do they know?

This does make me wonder.

Most ghosts have quite good manners - they don't spook until they're spooken to.

Ghosts ought to be noisy. What's the point of having a haunted house if you can't hear strange footsteps, moan's or mutterings in the dead of night? Haunted pubs (there always seem to be more haunted pubs and country hotels than ordinary, non-commercial houses, for some reason) would go broke if their late departed, but not unwanted, guests where to remain silent through the night.

A few years ago, I stayed in a haunted hotel in Monmouth. Apparently, the room I stayed in used to a priest's hole. I was most disappointed not to hear a ghost. I didn't even see a priest's hole, and the breakfast was awful.

Yes, DaiBach, they should be noisy--at least so we know they're there!

I''m afraid to ask what a "prists hole" is!

Good afternoon Lora.

A priest's hole is a small, secret room, where Catholic priests where hidden during the persecution of the Catholics in Britain in the 16th century.

Priest's holes are usually grubby, dark and smelly, and are thus best avoided.

Yes, best not to have one in your room, I would think!
