Suspiria 2018 trailer

I love the cinematography and the soundtrack of the original 1977 film. I wasn't sure how they could remake a film that is a living piece of art. But the trailer doesn't look too bad, actually.

for comparison:

although i suppose i consider myself as a fan of Dario Argento (and Jessica
Harper too), i'm more inclined to offer criticism of the original than praise.
even in the trailer, you can observe what constitutes my main grievance
with the film... the incessant background music, way too loud to ignore.

Well, to be fair, the YouTube video states that the person who uploaded the video is the one who made it. It says in the description that they made it for a school project. The music volume probably was at their preferred level when they made it.

actually, that's the way i remember experiencing the movie, especially near
the end scenes. i don't wanna be a wet blanket, but to be honest, i found the
whole movie fairly tedious and slow moving. the sets were sparsely decorated
and the colors were heavily weighted in one direction (all red, all blue, etc) in
most scenes. i guess i just didn't connect with the mood being set.

Yes, the ending was very loud from what I remember. The colors were meant, I think, to convey a dream-like fairy tale setting. Kind of like an adult horror version of Snow White. There are many allusions to this throughout the film. I won't write more because of spoilers for those who might want to see it as well as the remake, but if you watch the original one with the perspective of it being some horrific yet beautiful fairy tale dream, a lot of Argento's choices throughout the film make more sense.

This film always makes me think of the newer cult film that came out a couple of years ago, The Neon Demon. It's the same premise, really. It's a feast for the eyes, so it's so hard to think of a remake. It's just like a beautiful painting. The plot and acting in these films are not the greatest, but the sound and visuals are brilliant and it's why you want to keep watching... well, at least for me!
