Understanding expectaions and desires is part of Sp. development

Lately, there has been talk here of not having expectations, desires or wants.
Ok. That is a philosophy and if it works for you that's great.
I think that 'may' be influenced by Buddhist ideas about suffering. I dunno.
What I mean is the idea that
Desire is 'bad', expectation is 'bad', wanting is bad. I'm simplifying.

BTW, all this is my take on things. My opinion as to what has worked for me -
considering I have been hugely successful or blessed in 'receiving or making things come about'.
Oh my, the list, deliberately done or implemented since 1975.

It is true that if your cup is filled with just desires it is hard to fill it.
An empty cup is a good thing...it can then be filled. Common sense.
But - when holding that empty cup - you are not holding it for nothing.
Am I right?
You want it to be filled, there is a hope it will be filled - you may even know it
will be filled if you have confidence in how this Universe works.

Wanting something, desiring something to be different, for example- better is natural.
It isn't wrong. It isn't unproductive.
Having great emotion, uumph, drive, passionate force about wanting something is a powerful thing.

Often people think you should not have expectations - that way you won't be let down.
I have seen that written on forums often for years.

Again, if that works for you, great.

I have plenty more I want to say - but, will be back later - at least this will get things going...cuz I think
this is an important and controversial subject.

[When God said, "Let there be light." Lemme tell ya, He had expectation!!!!
And He certainly had desire!!!
This is part of how things get done. See whatImean?]

I think the point is for you to master them (desires, emotions, ...), and not allow them to master you.

You can't "not want anything". Wanting "not wanting" is "wanting" ... (koan? oxymoron?)

Ha! Wanting "not wanting" is "wanting".

You might enjoy this. It'll start at the pertinent point in the presentation, however the entire presentation is really good. Swami explains how the yogas interplay and build on each other and the order of prescription based on different visionaries of Vedanta, but at the root of them all is Karma Yoga.

I agree with you Miss H. If people say wanting is bad, expectations are bad, desires are bad, its is out of fear that it will lead to suffering so desires, expectations, and wanting remain suppressed and hidden deep down. Its quite different to say do without expecting anything in return than don't expect anything so you won't be let down. The latter is out of fear of being let down.

I'm a techie by profession and my awakening/realization experience enhanced my skills. Kind of like Peter Parker getting bit by a radioactive spider and turning into Spiderman. LOL!

If you right-click on a video a popup appears and you can choose "Copy video URL" or "Copy video URL at current time". It's placed in the clipboard and then just CTL-V and whallah, magic!

EDIT: Look at the end of the link. The t=2177 is how many seconds into the video it will start.

You are understanding my point, dear heart.

When I do a job - 'I expect to be paid'.
When I plant a seed, 'I expect it to grow.'
When I say, "Holy Spirit heal this person'...I not only expect it will come about...I know it will.
Did I have deep desire for 'Kevin' to be healed? Did I have deep and clear focus about him being healed ? Oh yeah.
(And he was healed even more than I had asked or decreed for...was I attached? No.
I left him having pronounced the healing, privately, I might add - he didn't know I did it.

I did it secretly in my mind's talk with the Holy Spirit.)

I saw him 30 days later with his arms open, a changed man from head to toe.)
There is power in knowing and expectation. (And calling it into being ---that's in the Bible, I think. ;)

I know that my desire and expectation are part of the formula for healing or manifesting.
(Some of this subject comes from reading in the LOA section, btw.
But I brought the subject over here.)
