How you identify with your subconscious beliefs, knowledge, fear, thoughts etc etc
When we identify with our thoughts, we identify with our subconscious beliefs, fear, knowledge, information etc etc. Our subconscious beliefs, fear, knowledge, information etc etc is what causes us to have the thoughts we have.
When we identify with our thoughts, we identify with our subconscious beliefs, fears knowledge, information etc etc by thinking this or that is good or bad-positive or negative-right or wrong and by thinking, I love/hate this or that and I like or I do not like this or that, thinking this way covers up our inner divinity/non-duality/consciousness/unconditional love and this covering up, is what causes us to have attachments to things and separates, divides and conquers and creates all the personal fear, suffering, sorrow and etc etc we have.
Try not to identify with your thoughts as outlined above for a week, as an experiment.

I look at thoughts as clouds in the sky, they appear from nowhere linger for a while then disappear as they head towards the horizon all the time out of my reach.
This means I cannot intervene or interact with the clouds, just watch them pass I by, some clouds are stormy while others are fluffy, a reflection of the nature of thoughts and how they effect us, others have an image we recognize but because of its distance to us we are not afflicted by its course,
eventually all thoughts are seen as clouds in the sky, something we witness, from a distance without effecting us as they pass us by

You are your thoughts & beliefs. It isn't a matter of willing or not to identify. Avoiding them leads you nowhere. You have to recognize them, and then learn to master them, especially emotions like fear and anger. That's what we come here, in a physical reality, to practice.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru.

'As we think so we become' Buddha
Thought is a physical entity in its own right, everything you can see sense feel touch, is a direct manifestation of someone or something thinking. for example your computer is a direct result of thought manifest by others upon which we place ourselves in
Original thinking or better still, what 'we' think is hidden by the many sources that invade our minds, opinions judgements, upbringing, tv is a great distraction, psychic invasion, telepathy, food is also a culprit for thoughts entering our minds hence the phrase 'Food for thought'
when we filter out the thoughts that are not our own we are left with a great deal of emptiness within our minds, the saying 'silence is the loudest noise' is what this is referring too, the great stillness, where one thought can manifest, its like a pin dropping on the floor and hearing the tree fall down in a distant forest

'I Want, need, expect wealth' is the energy behind a thought manifesting money, we manifest the more of wanting, needing and expecting and experience poverty because our intent is to know the meaning behind those three words, which are also thought manifest into words
when we remove all three above examples and thus the energy to manifest them we are left with a still and tranquil mind, and the original thought is recognized... by the entire universe,

Yest, you are able to do that once you get used to watching your thoughts.
When I first started watching my thoughts, I had to reject the habitual negative thoughts I had, sometimes after the thoughts have disappeared or while I had the thought. That seemed to work realy well for me but may or may not work for other people.
