I just wanted to start a discussion on John of God, has anyone heard of him, or even gone to see him? I heard about him on the Oprah show, and looked into him and he absolutely facinates me!!

For those of you who have not heard of him he is a renowned healer who lives in Brazil and people come to him for healing, he's been known to heal and cure cancer, dis-eases and illnesses. He doesn't turn anyone away and he doesn't charge a single dime.

i was also fascinated with him i would love to go see him one day.

Oh yep I've heard of him, and saw a programme about him a couple of years ago. When I first heard about him I was like you. Fascinated, intrigued and probably a little bit brainwashed if I'm honest. That was before seeing the programme I hasten to add.
It was an extremely disappointing and heartwrenching programme to watch. The amount of people who were robbed, yes robbed out of money and the hysteria that built up against one man who claimed to be some sort of Messiah, when in fact all he was was an egotistical human being imo. He may not actually charge for the healing, but the charge comes for all the lotions and potions he prescribes to people once he's laid his hands on them. All of which incidentally are made and sold at his own retreat. I particularly remember a woman from the UK I think, who had terminal cancer. It was a last resort for the family but they'd been told he could cure her. They stayed for so many weeks which cost them thousands. When they got back home, she saw the oncologist, the tumour had doubled in size and she passed a few weeks after. Her husband was completely devastated. they'd been promised the earth and were let down badly.
When you're in such a vulnerable state and all you have left is faith, someone like John of God does infact seem like your Saviour. If the intent is compromised though the healing isn't going to work. Ok I agree without doubt that mind over matter plays a massive part in healing certain ailments, but when it comes to actual physical disabilites then no, they can't.
I'm sorry if this has gone against your own belief and anybody else's, but it was the opinion I formed after watching this very intensive programme. Bear in mind, this of course is just from my perspective :)
