Replacing selfishness with the right knowledge

Selfishness is conceptual nervous energy existing in the mind, and this concept is totally wrong. A wrong concept can be removed only by a right concept just like a diamond can be cut only by another diamond. Of course, while cutting a diamond, not only is another diamond required but even the process of cutting needs to be forceful enough.

The other diamond in this case is knowledge and the force in the process of cutting is devotion. Therefore, the right concept associated with devotion to God succeeds in destroying selfishness. When selfishness is cut at the root, your service to God will be perfect and will please God.

Service to God with selfishness will not fetch you the real grace from God. You can only receive some boons to satisfy your selfishness. In fact, selfishness grows more and more by attaining boons just like fire grows more and more by receiving fuel; the process of pacification of selfishness only increases it more and more. You can never subside selfishness by such a process of pacification.

Selfishness really subsides when it is cut by knowledge associated with devotion. Your service to God without selfishness then will fetch you the real and immense grace from the God.

I think your service to all sentient beings will fetch you real and immense grace from God

Hahaha. Nice to hear from you sky. Yeah, service to other sentient beings is a good beginning. It's like the training period where one learns to serve another without expecting anything in return. But the real test arises when one has the extremely rare opportunity to serve One equivalent to the Buddha, whom I consider to be a human form of God, and who has the power to grant you anything you wish. Then, all your training is put to test. Because if the aspiration for fruit hasn't been wiped out from the mind by then, one will definitely crave for some kind of benefit, whether it be spiritual or material.

Where I come from, it's not unheard of for spiritual seekers to practice harsh austerities for a lifetime, only to settle for some supernatural powers known as siddhis along the way. The ultimate attainment lies beyond all such boons, no matter how alluring they may seem to be. I call it God's grace. You may call it something else.

Service to the Divine whether as Supreme Personal Deity or to the Divine in sentient beings is devotion all the same.

Since all is God, then who is the giver and receiver?

The action of the selfless service itself is a form of Grace.

Jyotir,

If you look at the life of great devotees like Hanuma and Gopikas etc, you will understand that your statement (Since All is God) is incorrect. Not every soul is God. If every soul is God, then the word Service becomes meaningless. Only some special souls like Krishna, Jesus, Mohammed etc are charged by unimagibable God and they are considered as Human Incarnations. Ofcourse every soul has a good chance to become God, and this can only be achieved by Selfless Sacrifice of work and fruit of work(not aspiring anything in return) to alive Human Incarnation or atleast to great devoted souls. Other than this by meditation or other physical techniques on cant become God.

The problem here is, we think we are God already and its just a matter of time and some effort to recognise God inside us through some efforts(meditation etc) which is utter nonsense.

Krishna had stated thus in the Uddhava Gita, " Evil is seeing relative perspective of good and evil."

Both so-called good and evil concepts are thorns which obscure the natural state of awareness through the habitual thoughts and emotions they generate.

The so-called good concept is relatively superior to the evil concept as such good actions produce less karma and bondage than the so-called evil concepts.

The value of a so-called good concept is that it helps to get rid of more negative ones. As Mooji stated, " Sometimes you need a thorn (concept) to remove another thorn (concept). " But the so-called good concept attains its intended objective only if it helps to get rid the mind of all conceptual conditionings that obscures the truth, as the truth is not a mere intellectual concept or emotional projection.

But if it stagnates in this regard of wiping out all conditioning's that blur the truth or reality as it is and becomes a mere belief-set, the so-called good concept can tend to be regressive, evil and prevent proper perception of reality as it is.

So-called witches that had been persecuted throughout the world were actually highly spiritual women having developed psychic powers which were misunderstood by the conditioned society around them. The author Dan Brown had stated that the persecution and genocide of these so-called witches in Europe lead to a vacuum of feminine energies and spirituality in European society and predominance of the masculine energies. This in turn lead to numerous battles and wars in europe disproportionate to its population, culminating in the world wars.

This conditioned perception of good and evil is also the reason for the numerous conflicts between religions which manifests as war, intolerance and so on.

Freedom from all concepts and beliefs can generate an intelligent response to any situation rather than an emotive or reactive one.

as it turns out the problem with such a path is that when you've traveled it for a while you start instinctively calling it 'good' but won't let yourself know what you've done.

If the path becomes a belief-set, and not merely knowing out of direct perception, then there is a danger that there is a 'person' who would personalize events calling it good or bad as per his or her conditioned emotional likes and dislikes, assumptions and beliefs.

the problem with that being how to approach it when you are confronted with a belief set that seems like it is direct perception.

In direct perception or seeing, there is no belief set.

You know that the sun rises every morning, not believe it.
