There are so many books on meditation out there that it is hard to know where to begin.

What type of meditation attracts you? Are you drawn to any particular Indian or Tibetan teachers?

And always remember that any book on meditation just points the way. Reading about meditation is not a substitute for sitting down and meditating.

Peace.

Yogananda for inspiration...then google all you can on Kriya Yoga?
There are books out there but they keep so much back...
if you like you can then contact the SRF for initiation and the techniques.

For profound inspiration Kirpal Singh's, "Naam or Word"...and others by him.
But to understand what he is really saying ...you would almost have to already have gone
so deep in meditation for years....but it inspires you to go inside...and tells you what you could experience...the importance of going within...
poetically quoting many gurus...that know of the Inner Sound Current, Music of the Spheres, Naam or Sat Naam,
the Inner Light...and the blissful Amrita, the Nectar within.
Sound good? It is.

Swami Vivekananda ...you will not learn any esoteric techniques, however.
Same with Ramana Maharshi ansd Nisargadatta's 'I Am That'...no techniques offered 'exactly'...but much wisdom.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

What type of meditation attract you? I suggest you listen to a guided meditation track rather than reading. Because there is already a voice that will guide you in meditation. There are samples that you can find in youtube or google such as anikiko music nutrition's guided meditation, mastering mindfulness, and a lot more.
