The scents that lift my mood have varied over time. It becomes a journey of sorts.

I used to dislike patchouli, until I inhaled one that smelled smooth to me rather than rough and "dirty." I found those super-grounding and comforting... And they've led me over time to become more fond of patchouli notes with more earth to them. I guess you could say that patchouli and others have taught me to never say never.

My most consistent mood-lifters have been:

Most citrus
Rose
Wildflower blends

I see Nag Champa was suggested a couple times already, it really is good stuff for brightening your mood. Myrrh is another good one for incense anyway, I don't have much experience with essential oils(...yet).

You might also check out scented candles. It's a trial by error process, but hey - put a little effort into it and once you find the scents that evoke in you what you're looking for - you'll always know where to find what you like!
:)
Just steer clear of **** like Glade and cheap artificial plug-in stuff.

Camphor clears my head while also providing grounding and focus.

Then I use Gardenia to bring in Happiness.

Happiness is the result of an enlightened mind whereas suffering is caused by a distorted mind.
