"Proof of Heaven" Book about Harvard Neurosurgeon's NDE

You must check this book out!

"PROOF OF HEAVEN" By Eben Alexander

I had just wanted "Our Astral Home" (a movie with subtitles) and was stunned by the similarities that this book I just bought & read has to this movie - they are unconnected.

Post back with any thoughts if you've see/read one or both!

I bought the book even though I was put off by the title. For once, I put my prejudices to one side and gave it a go.

I thought/hoped with it being written by a scientist, it might be unbiased, or at least a lot less biased than the norm.

Surprisingly, I was disappointed. Whilst I enjoyed his descriptions of the experiences he had, I felt he'd put 2 and 2 together and made 5. He'd assumed rather than just experienced (imo). I was particularly surprised to read that his conclusions about life (unconditional love) were the same for all of us. It was a throwaway sentence, possibly even in brackets, and he didn't go into any detail whatsoever as to how he had come to that understanding.

The underlying sense I felt from his words was an almost desperation to be believed. And I can understand why that was so, given he'd listened to many tales of a similar nature as a surgeon and dismissed them all - until he had his own. I felt he was trying to reach as wide an audience as possible - the believers, the curious and the sceptics - and he seemed to miss the mark somewhere along the way. I would put myself in the first lot (believers) having had numerous OBEs and I particularly enjoyed his descriptions of the earthworm place - that was familiar (although he ended up seeing it as something negative, whereas I never have).

The book was fluffed out with unnecessary information and I found it rather 'ordinary' - something I was honestly not expecting to find.

I could go on...but I won't! I give it 4/10.

Wasn't aware of "Our Astral Home".
Thanks
I believe Eben can be found on some youtube interviews, btw.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

"our astral home". Is that the English name for "nosso lar"?

I saw it for the first time the other day. The thing is, the place didn't seem much like heaven, but more a place to hang around in until we get reborn, and fix up after our post-life purgatory. It mentions the 'higher realms' though. That's more like where I want to be

I enjoyed the film though, although I kinda find it hard to believe it's all quite as simple as it makes out. That kind of thing is pretty new to me, though.

Thanx for the thread.

Yet, perhaps we look to science for corroboration for far too much.

Those who truly understand consciousness are very likely not wearing lab coats.
And Phd's Md's are least likely to accept what contradicts their training, or discuss it openly. IMHO

I'd far more likely respect the Dali Lama than the surgeon general or Obama on spiritual-consciousness matters.

Sorry to sound cranky, but I see this too often. Hopefully his peers learn something from the book.

This is certainly no criticism of the post or book, but only a query on why should we regard this book as especially signiificant, over others that document this subject simply cause the writer is an MD.
