Life After Death

Im really interested to see the views on this one; its a topic that first brought me to the site in the first place

There are some great posters on this particular forum but I rarely see them on the Death & Afterlife one. I would love to hear their views on this topic especially the science aspect of it (if there is any )

Me, I guess im 60/40 in favour but been feeling very sceptical of late.

Would love a clear communication from my mum, like you read in books but so far nothing concrete. I know theres the usual time is different over there arguments but still, its frustrating!

Im not one who subscribes to silly things like white feathers or robins appearing etc

Anyway you science thread guys, what do you all think???

some say the body is like a car that the spirit drives around in. And just like a car it one day goes kaput! But the spirit gets out of it and maybe sits around in the afterworld or maybe goes and gets a new one to drive for a while...

The physical body is just a lump of matter, like a rock. The "life" of it is what exists beyond the matter. So when the matter wears out, that doesnt mean the life stops...it is just not bound to that material form anymore.

I had a sparrow fly in my house a day before my cousin died. I've always had indications from animals if someone's about to die. I generally brush them aside till afterwards and then return to ponder them.

There's a few cool vids I've found on the topic that may interest. I prefer to watch rather than read.

Dr. Bruce Greyson: Consciousness Independent of the Brain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en-3Bz1RMig

Tibetan Book Of The Dead (Full Documentary) https://youtu.be/nOs8s5zTGnA Narrated by Leonard Cohens excellent and gravelly voice. I'd only watched part 2 "The Great Liberation", so will watch the whole later.

Theosophy UK What happens when we die https://youtu.be/8B9fFD4h_4M Another well made docu with an excellent narrator.

I like some the Tibetan ideas especially about letting go but don't hold to any single one paradigm. Interestingly in the first talk he speaks of people seeing what they believe will happen but then these never passed the point of no return.

I recommend reading Tom Campbell's work, author of My Big TOE. His book is free on google reads. He also has a YouTube channel which I can tell you will find very informative.

He is the only person I know which places spiritual concepts in a scientific context and has taken his own path through life using science, arriving at more or less the same conclusions that you find here.

I'm sure you would find it more relatable.

I believe (from prior discussions) that OP has already read Campbell's works... I did too, all 800+ pages of the trilogy, lol...

Do you have any particular favorite videos by him which you would recommend?

Ah didn't see that he did, thanks :)

I figured that since he cannot relate to spiritual metaphors and abstractness, he can probably relate to this.

Sure, he has a lot of videos but his Calgary videos summarize it pretty well. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to post URLs even though I have 24 posts.

Go to YouTube and search for Tom Campbell, then search his channel for "Calgary" and choose the Friday one which is the first in the series of 7.

They are a bit long (7 videos about 2 hours each) but he also teaches how to remote view/healing in a couple of them.

He also has videos specific to the topic of an "afterlife" but I wouldn't recommend watching them without context of the theory.

Hope this helps :)

Good quote from Buhlman :) was the first book I read.

Appreciate the detailed response Kisen... I am specifically interested in his videos concerning the 'afterlife' topic... Should I just search Youtube with his name and afterlife? If you know of any specific videos regarding this please let me know... Thank you...

I was of the opinion that there's no after life. I felt...you die, you're dead, that's the end of you. No scientific evidence to support the idea that consciousness goes on after death.
Then I had a NDE. The perception of both reality and my state of being during the NDE was remarkably more intense than anything I've experienced in this life. If what happened to me was simply the result of medication administered...or that sensation is simply a part of the death process and in reality there is no afterlife...then it is indeed a useless experience because it would serve absolutely no purpose...which doesn't even make sense. Why and for what purpose would evolve such a devious brain?

Science can't study consciousness after death. We can only study that which we can observe. How can science properly and accurately study anything beyond that? Perhaps one day science will be able to do that...but the fact that only 4 per cent of an atom is matter and that's what's observable, at this time, it makes sense to me we've got a lllloooonnnngggg way to go.

I think science can investigate life after death. Interesting what you say about heightened perception as he goes into that in the first vid I posted.

Statistical commonality of experience could be deemed a scientific benchmark with which to draw conclusions on what occurs when consciousness separates from the brain.

NDE's never pass the point of no return so perhaps cannot accurately speak of the total death experience.
