Stranded Whales.
Does anyone know the exact cause of why these mamals often get beached?
Any of the theories correct?
Hoping someone on here has direct info on what actually goes on.

I know you could have looked this up ...this is just for those that are too lazy:
Bad weather and rough seas, with dirty water and reduced visibility and sonar effectiveness, could confuse whales and dolphins.
Mistakes while chasing prey in shallow waters are thought to be a major cause of strandings for orca and dolphins.

The last article I read they reckoned that the whales followed a wrong leader(perhaps a female searching for a lost calf?Maye predators drag them into shallows), I suppose there could be numerous reasons, plastics in the food chain for instance but am not sure how much stranding has increased in recent times¡
Some claim to be able to communicate with animals telepathically and was hoping someone on SF may have some insight.

I know. I'd like that, too! :)

Just pondering, the bits I've read do not mention overfishing-If there are less creatures for the whales to eat they are going to be tempted to enter areas such as shallows in search of food plus I reckon they will be tempted to consume other stuff such as plastics.

I honestly don't have a clue why they keep on getting washed up. I can only assume that as aforementioned they are swimming into shallow waters and then get into trouble simply because of their sheer size/ bulk/ weight.
It appears to be happening more and more regular, and they end up all over the place don't they?
On beaches , in rivers, in canals and it's very distressing to witness.
I used to work with whale projects years ago and they are the most amazing , beautiful creatures .
Very loyal and families stay together for life and they grieve too.
So it makes sense when we often see whole pods washed up on beaches as happened on my beach a few years ago with a pod of about 9 sperm whales.
The way the general public treated them ( they were all dead) was nothing short of disgusting and made me feel physically sick.
But I really can only assume it's the size in shallow water.
We sometimes get the odd little seal pup ( alive) that has got washed up and separated , and they get rescued , but we never get anything else washed up except whales .

Podshell, did you see that 77 pilot whales washed up along a coastline in Scotland a few days ago ??
All perished.
This is by far the largest loss of whales at any one time on UK shores.
We should keep an eye on this story as experts are trying to determine why .
This was not just one Pod , but several and it's believed they were swimming together possibly for mating purposes.
Among them were some calves that were only two or three weeks old.
Post mortems have shown that one of the females was pregnant, and they had squid in their stomachs which proved they had eaten, so hunger is being ruled out I think.
Terribly sad.

So I've just been reading a very disturbing report on sky news about 13 sharpnose sharks that have washed up on a beach in Brazil , all testing positive for high volumes of cocaine .
The theory is the drugs were dumped overboard , or lost in other ways by smugglers.
This is just unthinkable that the beautiful sea creatures might be dying from drug overdose .
It just makes you want to cry.

I have once read about why they would do that, a spiritual/energy thing, but I can't recall what it was :/
I do know some things we do disturb their sonar abilities. Again not 100% certain what it is, but some technical/mechanical thing men do in the oceans that produces sound.

Here are some examples:
In the Bahamas in 2000, a sonar trial by the United States Navy of transmitters in the frequency range 3–8 kHz at a source level of 223–235 decibels re 1 μPa m was associated with the beaching of seventeen whales, seven of which were found dead. Environmental groups claimed that some of the beached whales were bleeding from the eyes and ears, which they considered an indication of acoustically-induced trauma.[30] The groups allege that the resulting disorientation may have led to the stranding.[31]
-----------------------------
Worldwide, use of active sonar has been linked to about 50 marine mammal strandings between 1996 and 2006. In all of these occurrences, there were other contributing factors, such as unusual (steep and complex) underwater geography, limited egress routes, and a specific species of marine mammal — beaked whales — that are suspected to be more sensitive to sound than other marine mammals.
Source, and what exactly was implemented by navy, can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine...nked_incidents
---------------------------------------------
Research has recently shown that beaked and blue whales are sensitive to mid-frequency active sonar and move rapidly away from the source of the sonar, a response that disrupts their feeding and can cause mass strandings.
No doubt many more things can be found when you just Google search it.
And the things you find are the things we are allowed to know. Lord knows what else they do, secret testing of shizzel or equipment that's top secret.
