Yes, I would think being elsewhere and not laying on your bed would be helpful. The first time I tried it, I could feel the top half of my body lifting up ... but my legs wouldn't go ! It was like they were saying " no, not going to do this " lol !

Next time it happens and you get stuck, keep saying, I can do it again and again. By saying that, you should be able to get out. It might be a bit of a struggle but you can do it. It has happened to me a long time ago. I would struggle to get out but I did manage to get out. Success depends on how confident you are when you are in the astral. If you think you can do it, the easier it gets. I can now easily get out of my body.

By taking the extra measures to physically move to another room to attempt AP, I think is causing you to prep your body and mind for it. But there are things you can do to mentally prep, one is to induce lucid dreams. You can do this by creating a reality check, it can be anything like checking your fingernails every couple hours but it has to be something you wouldn't normally do unless you were doing a reality check. And make sure its the same reality check every time you do it, once you get in the habit of this new routine your sub conscience will want to do it while you are asleep, and trust me. When you do your reality check in a dream, you become very aware that you are dreaming, and everything comes together. You can then directly transfer(with some practice) from your lucid dream to a projection. When I'm lucid its for a very short amount of time, I use that to project because for me its easier to project from lucidity than full consciousnesses because you are already half way there. When my lucid body starts floating up, is when I feel myself leaving my physical body.

edit: I can definitively tell the difference between a lucid dream and a projection. In a lucid dream, I become conscience and aware in my dream, but I'm not exactly in control of anything. I can move my body certain ways just like in the real world, but the dream still has a course of it's own that I have to follow, I can't change events. If I'm on a bike in a lucid dream, I'm on a bike and there's no changing that. But if I stand there and make a conscience effort to project, then I start leaving the lucid dream and enter a much more free realm.

Thanks johnnyfortner for your suggestion. I already knew about it but you got me motivated to do it. I am going to start doing that straight away. I know it will take time but it will be worth it. I will do checks by looking at my ring that is on my finger. I love this forum. It is great to help each other.

I did not ap this morning. I was listening to a different CD and I kept falling asleep. When the CD was finished playing I still fell asleep. I forgot to notice any ap signs. I will go try again tomorrow morning and I will go back to my other CD.

I woke up about 4.00 am. I got out of bed and I went into the next room. When the CD finished playing, I turned over a little to get more comfortable and then I let my whole body relax again and again. I felt the vibrations all over my whole body. It was very strong. I felt like I was going to fall over but unfortunately the vibrations stopped and it ended. If it happens again, I will do an ap technique.

I find it helps me if I sleep 4 hours, then get up, take a break for an hour, then go back to lie down. Every single time I will start to go out of body. For me it has to be 4 hours sleep initially. Less than that -I will just be too tired, and fall asleep when I go to lie down again. More than 4 and I won't be able to get into the vibrational state. I'll just be ready to get up and have coffee!

The lucid dream gateway never works for me. I am useless at it, get tangled in knots! The way that works best for me is a straightforward oobe from consciousness state with deep relaxation.

Another small thing...it helps if there is a little light in the room, either dawn light, or if it's dark outside, then a night light or protected candle

Hi all, this morning I felt my inner self moving quite fast out of my body. Just before that happened I thought my cat was in the room. Later I realised it was not real, probably a hallucination. I thought I heard a cat noise. When I felt myself moving I thought I will move away from my body. Unfortunately it did not work. I went back into my body. I think it did not work was because I probably said, I will get out of my body.
I did not ap yesterday morning. I fell asleep. I think I fell asleep was because I did not believe I would ap until I finished listening to the CD. I was not prepared for it. Now I say to myself I can ap any time. Also I try to be aware. I try to see if I can see anything when my eyes are closed. I got that idea from another forum. That is an excellent idea. It can help a lot. One minute you can be lying there and the next you are out somewhere instantly. You realise that you have fallen asleep.

Maybe just believe and know, you can feel your subtle body start to peel out, float up, like your legs and arms are floating, then you can just sit up slowly, then get out of bed like normal, only in your astral body...
My legs always start first for some odd reason
