"You Can't Always Get What You Want": intellect or character?

As the Stones were saying: "you can't always get what you want" ...

So when you're choosing your mate, friends, companions, working place, what would you favor: better intellect, or better character? Where would you draw the line?

When I was younger I favored intellect, but experience made me change my mind.

I think that both, intellect and character, are combinations of mind and genetics, flavored with education, child rearing, cultural environment, but it seems that intellect is more genetics than character is.

I only ever go for nice people, work from there. Go with people who resonate with you.

I'd of course want both but if I'll have to choose, I'll go for character anytime. I work for a field filled with supposed intellectuals, met several friends with high levels of education but as I have found out, as our intellect develops, so does our ego, and if unchecked, leads to a not so likeable character.

Intellect I believe may also be developed but character is not. Character to me is innate. So give me a person with a good sense of values, a personable character and I'll teach him how to develop his intellect.

Isn't intellect apart of someone's character? like Sheldon from the big bang theory for example?

I can answer this because i think i get what you are asking, and i would say character because i don't care if someone is intellectually smart, to quote Shania Twain "That don't impress ah me much"

I was just thinking of something similar, however, more so along the lines of intellect and character vs. attractiveness. I met someone who I find incredibly interesting, intellectually stimulating, who is super nice and loves animals... but who is not that attractive. I have been contemplating this connection the last few days... The more I think about it, the more willing I am to go for it (and the more attracted I am slowly becoming).

I dont think my early 20's self would have gone for it, but now that I am older and more mature, I am more willing to give it a go. Anyways, just my random musings for the evening.

Baro-san - I would imagine that it all depends on you. The things that you notice about people, quirks & things that you admire. Things that they bring to your life & what you bring to theirs.

There are too many variables really but if for example you were a Mormon then ideally a nice Mormon girl would be something you would choose, working in that community would continue your spiritual growth & bring friends of similar interests. However the same Mormon may wish to challenge themselves & go into the world to see what else is out there..
