This might not be very philosophical just my understanding of what emotions are. Basically, they are a learning tool for the spirit within the body to move through different stages toward the eventual separation from the incarnation cycle. Emotions will never go, they just flatten out, until they are almost non existent. We can see this in many so called "old souls"who are on their last or close to their last incarnation.

This is appreciated, as it helps me to understand it a bit more.

I just got through typing up my 'case history' in the 'Healing Forum' thinking I may need a 'healing' or something to be able to retrieve all those 'flattened out' emotions, which many others believe I should be able to feel, but that may also be based on their own feelings/assumptions of how I should be 'feeling'.

How I understand it, is when those 'old souls' feel an emotion, they let it all out and move on with their lives...not carrying it around...and they do this over and over, until the stimulus for an emotion provides little to no effect - i.e. 'flattening it out'.

That's not to say, I don't feel...because tears of frustration well up, when people try and force me to 'feel emotions' which I then try to feel and identify, but they are just not there...leading others to think I am experiencing the emotion they are talking about. lol

of the views expressed thus far, i'm in agreement with Seawolf and
dream jo, and only partially agreeing with most of the other thoughts.

i tend towards considering Spirit and Will as distinct aspects of divinity, with
Spirit acting in support of Will [Spirit serves Will, lovingly.] i also tend
towards understanding thoughts to be the language of Spirit, and emotions
to be the language of Will... which means that for me to be healthy and whole,
my thoughts are geared towards 'satisfying' my emotions, and not in seeking
to dominate over them. i believe that everyone has an innate desire to be
happy, and i disbelieve that some mentally constructed plan is the proper
means to achieving that sought for happiness.
i don't believe that emotions tend towards "flattening out"... not 'naturally'.
my sense is that elation, and bliss are the 'endpoint' for emotions; exaltation
is where healthy emotional progression leads a being, in my estimation.

Bliss is a state of being,
not an emotion

what i'm saying is that joyful emotions can lead towards where we want to be.
it's important to recognize that emotions aren't solely reactions to past stimuli,
but that they may also be 'predictive'.

Sure, that is why I see emotions a learning tool, and once you have learned what you needed to learn, emotions flatten out, you will not have this highs and lows.

we're probably talking about different, though related things.
i imagine that the contrasts between happy and unhappy emotions may
still be as sharp (probably moreso in fact), but the experience of shifting
dramatically between "highs and lows" would lessen significantly when
it's learned how to choose which to pursue and which to avoid; rather than
to be reacting to circumstances and allow them to dictate the emotions.

it's my contention that emotions are not dependent on life's circumstances.
i see them as directional markers, pointing towards heaven or hell, allowing
the destination to be chosen by the traveler.

Emotions can cause actions & reactions which, occasionally, chase each other throughout the life of their beholder.
Some emotions can affect adrenaline rushes & heart attacks, while others may bring about murder & suicide, or Eiffel- & Trump-towers.

There are innumerable works about emotions and their effects, yet only few do mention that emotions are addictive. An omission that ought not to surprise, since addicts do not only tend to deny their predicament, but to elaborate sophisticated cover-ups, excuses & deceptions, and sometimes even try to seduce and to corrupt those who do not cherish
