I don't feel I will be able to quit now, because I am missing one important thing. Truly wanting to quit. I like the idea of quiting, and know I should. But at the moment I don't really want to. I like having it as a crutch.

Ya, you're still enjoying it too much. Maybe one day you will get so disgusted with it that you will want to quit. And maybe, one day, you will outgrow getting high also. Then maybe you won't. Time will tell. Good luck.

In some ways im not sure how you "outrgrow" getting high, makes it sound like a adolescent stage... But perhaps you mean in terms of spiritual growth and happiness when you no longer feel the need for stimulants etc. In the latter case I hope so... I don't get high any more anyway. Mostly due to the archaic racist laws that made it illegal and that they now feel they cant recant/ review.

Find out why you are addicted to cigarettes, why do you suck on that poison, are you in a way trying to subconsciously committing suicide ?. The only way to stop any addiction is to find why you are addicted, and deal with that, kick it in the butt, and maybe you will find what it is that keeps you in this prison, good luck.

I think smoking is a "wrong" way of maintaining a certain level and composition of energy and nicotine in one's body.
When one feels a shortage of energy and/or nicotine, one automatically needs a cigarette to reach the known levels again.
Smoking can also be caused by lack of activity.

coming from smoker here
i think smoking is pretty hard addiction to give up
probably harder than alcohol and cocain or whatever other addictions

main reason is cigarettes play alot on mental part
we do it in our free time .. we do it for pleasure and stress
when we watch movies they're not as fun without smoking
when we're waiting for something .. or listening to music etc

the problem is everything we do is associated with smoking
staying away from those activities is very hard
while maintaining distance from cigarettes

my top quit attempt was about for 6 months
i can offer a tip that is cutting down and not completely quitting

ignore the people who tell you one cigarette is as bad as pack
just don't listen to this nonsense

cut down and log your cigarettes
say if you smoke a pack .. cut down to 10 cigarettes a day
and divide them through out your day and stick to that
and smoke a heavy brand so one cigarette will be enough for dose

then after a while when you're comfortable with your new cut down
go back to half of that .. etc etc etc
keep log of cigarettes you smoke .. and keep logs of time between them
and keep logs of how long it's been in hours
like in last 3 days = 10 cigarettes something like that
it will help the mental part

And yet I have seen many just give it up, and never touched it again, it all depends on the individual, one must find out why they smoke, what are they trying to supress, which most do with all types of drugs, supress.

I've struggled for years. At the moment I am smoking, I started a week ago after 6 weeks off them. I was doing overtime at work one night on a burst water main in the middle of winter at night with 2 other smokers. The thought of spending a night in a muddy trench in sub zero temperature with no comfort was just too frightening for me. Yes I know, weak as ****.
