A hilarious look at the afterlife

Whaaa, am I serious?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQmJl1CQx2o

Haven't seen this in many years but this clip is hilarious. It's time I rewatched this.

from "Defending Your Life"

i really don't recall the film-story but could use a giggle.
Ebert appreciates a good story and gave it 3.5 **** out of 4

I plan to rent-stream it from Amazon
local blockbuster doesn't have it on dvd

I need a funny story, and this seems sufficiently ludicrous-silly while grounded in sense .....
very very few reasonably intelligent comedies deal with spiritual matters,
and Albert Brook hit the right notes to make it work, as writer, director, actor

Watched "Michael" recently.... great film about Archangel Michael , funny-poignant ....

I LOVE Michael...my fav...haven't seen this one, but I remember when it came out I wanted to see it, then forgot. Another good one on the same subject (but SO not a comedy) is "What dreams may come," with Robin Williams. Very well done.

I've that one reserved at Netflix streaming, with Robin Williams
saw it years ago, yeah pretty heavy, but worth seeing, despite a version of hell that may be somewhat overdone.

I'm watching 'Defending' now.and a good portion involves a trial of sorts
while select clips from his life are shown by the prosecutor & defender, & evaluated by 2 judges.
I've not seen this (life review) represented before in a film, and it makes good points, and something worth thinking about.
Wisely he uses wry humor when appropriate to lift the mood, but the life review isn't made fun of, even though it's not represented "authentically" but instead becomes part of the plot.

It seems a wise-tasteful comedy-fantasy that treats the subject with some respect.

Another precious comedy by Albert Brooks is "The Muse" , about a "real life" hollywood muse, (claiming to be the daughter of Zues) played by sharon stone.... a delightful comedy involving a brilliant yet demanding muse who inspires writers, directors.

Another one of my favs is, "All of Me" with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin. Lily is rich and has always had heart problems, so never got to live the life she wanted and is dying and wants her soul to go into a living, beautiful, healthy body when she passes over, instead of the Other Side. Steve Martin is such a goof ball, and such a brilliant actor, it is so funny.

Just recalled,...Shirley MacClaine has a cameo in "Defending Your Life"

In the Past Lives Arcade, she is a "hostess" who welcomes the participants ,
before they meet their past life incarnations .... holographic figures of past incarnations in action.... 3-5 diverse incarnations, depending on what a subject wants.

A pretty cool idea-arcade

I had lunch with Shirley in a dream, around the time that film was made, and suspect we've some sort of connection.....maybe grammar school friends in a past life., or cousins.

Despite being a comedy, it's tough to watch this film without being inclined to examine ones own life history, something that can't be said of many films.
