Indians Never Understood Service

(Excerpt from message of Shri Datta Swami)

The unimaginable God called as Allah and Jehovah and the human incarnations of the Lord, called as Mohammed and Jesus, were sufficient for the Muslims and Christians to follow the path of sacrifice of work and the sacrifice of the fruit of work. Therefore, there was no second human incarnation [in these religions]. In India, the concept of the unimaginable God, Parabrahman always existed, yet several human incarnations came. Indians never understood the sacrifice of work and the sacrifice of the fruit of work, which are practical.

The Lord has come several times [in the forms of various human incarnations] and this shows the inability of Indians to change. A teacher goes to the section of dull students again and again to revise the lesson. It is not a matter of pride. Indians never recognized the human incarnation whenever the Lord came to preach. When the human incarnation left the body, Indians worshiped that human incarnation through statues and photographs. This is due to the inability of Indians to conquer jealousy and ego. Shirdi Sai Baba wrote the following message in milk and on banana fruits in the presence of all devotees in the house of a devotee and the message is

“I asked you to meditate upon statues because it is difficult to meditate upon the formless God. But even though the Lord has come in human form, you do not recognize Me in this human body and still worship statues. Therefore, let Me die and become a statue for the sake of your worship”.

It is said “When the elephant comes, you say that it is not an elephant. When it goes away, you begin to doubt whether it was an elephant. Finally, when you see its footprints, you decide that it was an elephant” (Yada gajo neti—Kalidasa). This is the state of Indians.

The lord comes time and time again because man loses his way, rather than not just because `Indians don`t understand`.

One fact about incarnation people forget is that just because someone has been born into a particular tradition in this life (Indian, westerner, american Indian , Innuit etc) does not mean that they will always be born into that tradition, with each birth we experience new things, a different sex, a different religion and so on.
God returns time and time again, because we dilute his simple message of love and devotion, we get all messed up with doctrine, semantics, and the ego leads us towards power and away from simplicity and god.
The divine returns, to put us back on the path properly. He comes to remind us to go home.

I was going to say humanity doesn't understand Service, but that would be unfair. There is kindness lurking in everyone to varying degrees, potentially great degrees ... They just need someone to light the flame.

All this talk of religion, but it's how you live your life that is the all-important thing.
If you set out each day to do all the goodness and kindness that you can, and to do no harm to man or beast, then you are walking the highest path.
And when your time is up, if you can leave the earth a better place than you found it, then yours will have been a life well lived.

thank you for the nice reply.

(Excerpt from message of Shri Datta Swami)

To please the Lord you have to surrender your words by singing about Him, the mind in His devotion and the intelligence in His discussions. However these three constitute only 1% of the total sacrifice and this is called as theoretical sacrifice. The sacrifice of your work and fruit of work constitutes 99% of sacrifice, which is called as practical sacrifice.

Service is the proof of the real love. Service means sacrifice of work and sacrifice of fruit of work. The mother serves her child by sacrifice of work like giving bath, dressing etc., for years together continuously. The father serves the child by sacrifice of fruit of his entire hard work. It is a clear practical point that the proof of the real love is only service. If you serve your family, you love your family. If you serve the entire world, you love the creation. If you serve the God, you love the God and this is only devotion.

Indians, particularly, are sacrificing words through prayers and feelings through expression of love for the sake of God. When the question of wealth or money comes they sacrifice it for the sake of their families only. This is the reason why India suffers with poverty. Swami Vivekananda wept loudly facing the sky asking; ‘Why India with such high spiritual knowledge is suffering with poverty?’ The foreigners are not so well in prayers and expression of love or meditation compared to Indians but they sacrifice their money for the sake of God with full vigor. Therefore God blesses the foreign countries with wealth and prosperity.

Indians sacrifice words and mind only to God. Therefore Indians are blessed with very good pronunciation of language and excellent knowledge, which are connected to the words and mind. Gita says ‘Ye Yatha Mam Prapadyante’ which means that God gives you result in the same way in which you worship Him. If you worship Him with words (prayers) only He will also appreciate you with sweet words. If you love Him with your mind and concentrate with meditation, He will also love you in turn with high concentration of mind.

If you sacrifice practically, He will also do everything to you practically. Indians must learn this practical sacrifice from foreigners as they have learnt the science and technology from the West. Even in the olden days, Indians were always doing exercises in theoretical knowledge of God and in composing lot of poems on God. Therefore the same attitude entered even their education of science. They have become theorists even in science.

The foreigners were less theoretical and more practical in spiritual things and therefore that attitude entered their scientific education also and the foreigners have become the real practical scientists. Let Indians not be proud that they are the masters in the spiritualism if not in science. Though I am born in India, I deny this. The Indians should follow the foreigners not only in science but also in spiritualism by learning the practical aspect of the materialistic as well as divine knowledge.

Lord Jesus also told the same.

Matthew–6 : 19 to 22
‘Do not Lay up for yourselves, treasures on earth. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is there your heart will be also’.
