Mindfulness awareness

I love Pema Chodron's books and lectures - I think they're more than mindfulness, which Jon Kabat Zinn seems to focus on. I love Pema's ideas on being with one's thoughts and feelings, watching them like clouds moving across the sky and instead of getting "hooked" by them (her words), just being with the fundamental energy of the thoughts/feelings, rather than engaging in them.

She also says that when you're with the thoughts, to just look at them and say to yourself "stay ... stay ... stay". I find it far easier to do when sitting alone quietly at home than during the day when I'm busy with things, but I really resonate with the idea of not engaging in them, just allowing them to be without judgment or resistance.

That's a very powerful technique. I first heard of it in a book called 'Light of the Kensei' by G. Bluestone. Realizing that our awareness supercedes our thoughts is a very big step. Good on you for taking it. I might also add that it is at this point that the 'law of attraction' really starts to work for you. Now that you have become 'aware' of your thoughts you can start shaping them and using cosmic laws to manifest your intentions in whole new ways. Have fun with that and good luck.

Ja what I try to do is between those times when I forget to be still and focus on just that peace and acceptance, I always just bring myself back to awareness of my body or my thoughts and feelings. Just awareness and observation, nothing else.

Thanks, and I loved what you said re the law of attraction. What seems to me is that there are all these different ways of approaching self acceptance and peace with what is, and once we're more aligned with this, then what we see as a result is that same peace reflected in our lives.

I like that. Its a very simple way. Its easy to get caught up in these 'complications' that are created by this world to fool us into thinking everything that this is anything but SIMPLE.

They may try to full me into thinking the deffinition of 'simple' is 'stupid' but its best we dont fall for that.

I love Pema's books too and I think I have all of them. I've practised mindfulness for some time and it was that which brought me out of a deep and dark depression and towards the light. I still have negative thoughts and feelings, but there is space around them. I accept them, and with acceptance comes peace. I'm still learning how to apply this when my life feels stressful and tough, which is often, but I'm getting there.
