I use them - but, right now I tend to be more drawn to the raw pieces. I don't know why, but it's just something I've noticed with myself.

I see. I seem to be drawn to my snowflake obsidian. once it's in my fingertips i find it hard to bring myself to let it go.

Obsidian is nice polished - I would prefer that polished than not. I say this because if it is polished just right...and you look at it...it's like looking into the Abyss...and I like that.

Citrine is a wonderful tumbler stone but make sure you don't get cooked Citrine.

Tumbler stones do work. It really depend on what you want to use it as. I experienced people who actually used it for meditation, digestion help, pregnancy, work aide (use as a refractive index of light and sound as well as decorative paper weight). I also saw a combination of quartz/tumbler stone/emerald/obsidian/onyx/opal/ruby use to light up a fireworks that lasted well over 8 hours. I was really bored so I sat for about 10 hours watching the fireworks.

I like tumbled stones, I add them to my necklaces and they are easier to carry around too. x
