Is the King of cups always good?
I wonder...
Is the King of cups always good?
I look at the interpretations at www.learntarot.com and the keywords there are wise, calm, diplomatic, caring and tolerant.
I'm not sure though.
Is the King of cups always that good - even if not reversed?
What do you think?
minx.

My take on the Kings is that they are all repeating communications patterns. So they tend to allude to histories of communication or transacting efforts with life. So with histories come baggage and so the Kings do get a bad rap. In Cups (play themes) it would say something like, "a repeating communication effort-result (of, related to) pleasure, fun, happy, simple themes. So an example of that is a game you have played before which requires you to say something, that would be a Kind of Cups sort of thing.
Since the KC is "play" (cups) based, that has an affirming base as a Cup, so I would take it to generally be a positive (yes) response to a question. The Kingness of it tends to shade it a little toward a "yes with a sigh" or, "I want to keep talking about this game we are playing." In a way, the King of Cups is like a yes, with strings attached. :)

On his own I think so, yes. In context with other cards and/or a position it could vary. Other cards could add another vibe too it, but I think inherently he will always be positive when upright, esp if you do use reversals.
I don't use reversals, so I always rely on my intuition and context to get the interpretation.

I would think successful sociopaths and similar ilk would appear as King of Cups, and this would definitely not be good.

That's exactly an example of what I was thinking of.
I would also like to add so-called good christians, often the preachers, as examples.
