Forgiveness from the dead & the estranged

Dear All,
Is it possible to seek forgiveness from loved ones(family, past friends, exes) who have have either passed away or who have left (cannot contact them)? Specially from parents who passed away? Its not a question of about learning from one's mistake as those situations are unlikely to arise in my life again. But I regret that I made mistakes and I cant do anything about them except feel helpless. Thanks
