Drinking lots of water

Naturopathes and many other natural healers are telling us that we should drink lots of water per day. I think it is about 8 glasses. I can easily do this in summer but in winter? I just don't feel thirsty in the cooler weather. If I drank that much in winter I would have to force it down and I would simply forget most of the time. Also, I would wear out the carpet going to the toilet all the time.
How do the other forum people feel about this? Do they drink this much water and if they do, how has it benefited them?

As I see it, the 8 glasses of water are a guideline to adhere to if you can. Foremost I would listen to what the body can handle. If you find it hard to drink this amount of water in winter then I wouldn't fret about it. You sound like you are aware of fluid intake anyway.

As a guide to dehydration, the darker the urine the more fluid you need. Also, if you pinch the skin on the back of your hand and it doesn't go back to shape quickly - this also indicates the need for more water.

Dehydration can be an issue in the summer months especially and we need an appropiate amount of water to flush toxins out of the kidneys.
Water is essential for life. Our need for it is greater than food. But you can over do it.
I think listening to your body and drinking when you're thirsty is a sensible path to follow.

Be aware:

Drinking lots of water or any liquid flushes the soluble vitamins B Complex and C out of your body....

Drinking a lot after meals makes life very difficult fior your digestion.

Very good advice.

I would suggest you keep a water bottle. Drinking water out of glasses just doesn't appeal to me in any way, so my water bottle is a must have. If you don't have one, just buy some bottled water and reuse the bottle. And, of course, make sure you empty it at least twice a day. But if your water contains fluorite...sigh. Move to a different country?

Can I suggest if people are buying bottled to drink water out of that they buy a proper re-useable bottle.

This would be made of hard plastic and has a wide neck to aid washing. As much as I am all for people drinking a lot of water we don't want to increase the amount of bottles we put in land-fill sites. Water bottles from shops have small necks so they cannot be washed and will eventually go green inside. A washable one can be used indefinitely.

This is a site that I got both of mine from. I use my 1ltr one every day for work with a glass that I can drink out of. My smaller one goes everywhere with me if I am going out http://www.onyabags.co.uk/shop.php?crn=231

I find that I have taught myself to drink more water. I used to come home from school utterly dehydrated and feeling awful, now I get nervous if I don't have water with me because I want to drink it all the time.

If you can't cope with water add a little lemon juice to taste. Lemon juice has lots of health giving properties, doesn't contain sugar and tastes nice too ;)

Manufactureres don't recommend reusing the plastic water bottles. The reason is that the BPA (used in making the plastic bottle) may leach into the water when the plastic gets older, i.e. weakens a little.

Also, if your water contains fluoride, use a jug water filter!!

Yes, that's right, very wise advice but the filter has to be one that takes out Fluoride as not all of them do.

You can also drink other things than just plain water, and keep hydrated as well!
Drinking most herbal teas (non-caffeinated) - or green tea, etc is probably just as beneficial (if not more so) than plain water, and will also keep you from getting dehydrated.
I also tend to add lemon (or lime, which I prefer!) juice and/or slices to my water when I drink it (at least when I'm at home) - yummy
I also enjoy a product that I buy fairly regularly - it's green tea with ginseng & honey - it's great to drink either cold from the fridge, or just room temperature, when the flavor from the honey really starts to come out...
