does anyone know how a skinny guy can gain weight

i have had a fast metabolism sense i was a kid and have always had a hard time gaining weight. does anyone know the best way and fastest way to gain weight when you have a fast metabolizm

Continue to eat healthy food, but more dense in calories. Muscle is healthier, heavier, and looks nicer than fat. Working out increases appetite too.

No matter how fast metabolism you have, if you intake more calories than you spend then you'll gain wait.

I wish I was like you.I've spent my whole life trying to stay slim.The only way I know how to gain weight is to eat more.

Eat more quality food plus lift weights several times per week.

When I was younger I had a very fast metabolism too and had the same problem

Then I became a competitive power-lifter and had to eat at least 30 calories per pound of body weight to gain weight.

And of those 30 calories per pound of body weight.....I needed about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight...

1 gram of protein is 4 calories.
1 gram of carbs is 4 calories.
1 gram of fat is 9 calories.

So lets say you weight 150 lbs and are lifting heavy in the gym to build muscle....that's 150 X 30.....you'll at least 4,500 calories per day with
at least 150 grams of protein @ 4 calories per gram......that's 600 calories or more from protein........about 15 to 20% calories from protein......the rest healthy carbs and healthy fats.

This worked for me but of course you will have to experiment with it for yourself.

Gem has expertise in this also....I expect he'll chime in with good info too

Hi James. Lucky 1 nailed it and gaining weight happens when you eat more calories than you expend, but when gaining weight we need to specific that fat-free mass, or lean mass is gained, which means muscle mass. Lifting weights and having the appropriate diet is the way to do it.



This means you have consume more calories than you do currently, and those calories should come from nutrient dense food, as opposed to 'empty calories'.


Calories come from protein, carbs and fat. The first step is to get enough protein, which for muscle gain would be around 1g per pound of body-weight (considering you have a low body fat percentage). The rest of your calories have to come from carbs and fat, but it doesn't matter much if you eat high fat/low-carb or high-carb/low fat, as long as the total protein+carbs+fat has more calories than you burn.


If you eat the protein quota and consume 250-500 calories in excess of what you burn, and lift weights, you will gain weight and that gain will mainly be muscle mass.


In short, eat a lot and lift heavy things.
