Exclamation Becoming Vegetarian.

Today I have decided to take the full oath and become vegetarian.
The problem is my whole family eat meat, today I told my mum I was becoming vegetarian (she thinks its stupid as she is set in her ways). She offered me meat 4 times today just to be awkward.
Does anyone have any tips on going about this and trying to stay on the right path?

Good for you!

Stick to your guns. They'll come to accept it and when they realise why who knows?, maybe they'll go vegetarian too.

Why not post in the vegetarian area?

Meanwhile, GOOD FOR YOU! It's also good for the other beings who share this planet with us. There can't be too much kindness and compassion.

I am becoming vegetarian as I do not want to be apart of the slaughter of animals if there are other options I can choose. I will not miss meat to be honest with you anyway :)

Vegetarian people tend to have longer lives than non-vegetarians. The incidence of cancer has also been found to be much higher in non-vegetarians than in vegetarians.

Another fact is that vegetarianism helps reduce global warming too.

As per a 2006 FAO report,it has been found that current production levels of meat contribute between 14 and 22 percent of the 36 billion tons of "CO2-equivalent" greenhouse gases the world produces every year. This generates more greenhouse gases than either transportation or industry.

These can be convincing viewpoints for your folks to respect your decision.

i am with your mom. two reasons. if someone else is preparing your meals then you eat what is made. she is not your slave. make your own meals if you want.

living longer? i think people live to long as it is. my home is spirit. some people work 60 hours a week and some 40. i am not afraid of death and am glad to go home sooner. you can reduce your carbon footprint by leaving this earth sooner to.

stopped and took my shower. as often happens in the shower. thoughts come. in days of old, and even now those of Jewish faith eat differently. they believed they could not eat with others because others did not prepare the foods the RIGHT way. jesus ate with them. he knew it did not matter..

Vegetarian is a good path to be on. :) I'm vegan and though I have my moments where I want some chicken or cheese, it quickly vanishes when I think of the lives I help save.

Anything to lessen the suffering of animals is good in my book. Mind you, it is mostly the industrialization and mistreatment of animals that gets me so riled up.

I really have nothing against those who eat meat. It's the lack of respect for animals and willful ignorance as to how meat gets to one's supermarket and all the suffering that animal went through.

That said, I can see kfern's point. Sometimes, like during the holidays, it's good to be a part of it all, to just revel in the food so lovingly prepared by family. I doubt I will ever touch meat again, but I will certainly help myself to the stuffing, the potatoes, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, etc.

And then go back to my regular regime once it's over.
