Dreams and Ethics

Do you ever do things in dreams that you would NEVER do in real life? Do our ethics change in dreams?

like have you ever killed an enemy in a dream? i have to admit i did. i strangled her to death. lol. with my bare hands. it felt so real. i got so much gratification out of her struggling to get away. even when i woke up i felt so good about it. it's like i actually did it. even to this day i feel vindicated. i know it's wrong morally and socially but in a dream it's not. i would never do that in real life tho because i'm a sweet person.

From what I understand, dreams are mostly our brain's way of processing emotions that have not been dealt with. In the dream world anything goes and we do lose our inhibitions. But they are also exaggerated for effect. So something in the dream may appear to be a much bigger deal than maybe we perceive it in real life. They are in some ways trying to get our attention so they are dramatic for effect.

Most of us have been raised with a certain amount of morals but the only difference really, between what is considered to be good over bad people is the ability to resist our impulses to do harm. But most of us have at some time, felt homicidal towards another human, we just usually don't admit it. But it is written in our dna the propensity to kill so that we can protect ourselves in a life or death situation. Luckily we have advanced society enough that we don't need to do that often but the impulse to kill our enemy is fairly common, we have just learned to not act on that impulse.

So the bigger question becomes, why is this person your enemy? What are they doing or not doing to have become an enemy in your view? How is it defining you as a person and does that definition support or undermine your well being and sense of self. These are questions to contemplate for yourself so you can move past the underlying hurt that is being dredged up in you by this person. Seeing anyone or anything as an enemy will keep us on the defensive. Sort out what you feel the need to defend and you might just free yourself from some unhealthy beliefs.
