The Pope

Today, as has been reported in the News, the Pope will be visiting Geneva in Switzerland. The Swiss, who are very cautious about throwing tax-payers money out of the window are rather upset at the amount of money which they have to give out. In fact, it seems that one bishop, in order to be able to offer the financial support his part of the burden of what this visit will cost was forced to issue a public request for money. Hearing this does of course cause a picture to form in the mind of the splendours of Rome. And a further picture of the displaced and homeless of this planet.

The real question which arises is, once again, that of a Christian's belief. Or maybe put differently - the beliefs of Christians. Surely, any normal person would say, 'if the Pope is God's representative on Earth (and even if he isn't) his belief should allow him to present himself to the public in such a way that he would be an integrated part of the 'masses', just as God surely would want'. Instead he'll be surrounded by guards of all kinds, many of them with weapons they'd be quite ready to use.

So we are left with the thought that should he be assassinated, well, so what. Christians know very well (so we are told) that the next stop, maybe with a wait in darkness, will be heaven. Eternally. So what's the big deal?
It'll be the same for all those red hats sitting in the pews when they could instead be helping to clear the rubble in Syria or at least stick up for the Roma Gypsies in Italy who are threatened by right wingers or to resist the disrespectful handling of people on the Mexican/USA border.

Come on Mr. Pope, there's lots to be done, get your finger out.
