I haven't experienced this for a long time now. I appreciate everything that comes my way.

How come you didn't bother to offer your perspective?

The thought / theme of the thread came to mind so I posted it there and then .

I only had enough time to post the title instead of rather speaking my mind on such thoughts ..

Sometimes however I do find that if I wait until I read and then converse with others that have posted their thoughts on the subject then my understandings do eventually come out in the wash .

I reckon there's something more to it that.

it's been my experience that wanting something usually leads me into the 'be careful what you wish for' realm, so when I find myself doing it now I always play a little game in my head which then allows me not to care either way.

unless it's ice cream or a book..then, I don't play. I get it and it's good!

I used to believe I wanted this or that to meet a need. Then of course when I had what I thought I wanted it didn't meet that need and so I lost interest after a short time. I suppose deep down I did believe that if I bought whatever it was I'd be happier. Now I know different but it has taken me a while to realise it. I still get urges to buy things but I make myself stop and think about what I'm really feeling and needing and whether those needs will be met through the item. When I make myself think about it I come to the conclusion that I'm desperately trying to smother a sense of unease by the feel-good sensation of shopping. That's why I never really want what I'm getting - it is a largely unconscious process. When it becomes conscious I know the item isn't really what I want.

There have been times when I've regretted making an impulse purchase, but on the whole I've enjoyed the things I've bought.
There are those times though when we want something to fill a void in our lives, I remember that feeling of fruitlessness after making such purchases.

Buying music has a different tone for me though. Much of what I bought when I was younger was because I didn't know my own tastes, I'd be uncomfortable at playing my music in front of friends. I had albums that I didn't really want, because I didn't know what else to buy.

Anticipation is entirely underated and at least as much as fulfilment is overated.
