No-separation and secondary identification

The spiritual quest can be said to be about the re-discovery of (and ‘re-alignment’ with) our true nature.

At the core of this is the ‘seeing-through’ of identification as a separate self (ego.) Some characterize this as the complete annihilation of the ego. This can be misleading.

Ego identification as true identity IS transcended but identification with limitation is embraced as functional/practical and necessary in its own domain. You could think it as a series of (to borrow Ken Wilber’s phrase) nested circles.

For instance, draw a small circle and in that write 'I am a soldier’ (plumber, teacher, nurse etc.) Draw a larger circle around that and in it write 'I am a man' (woman etc.) In an even larger circle around that write ‘I am a human being'...

Realisation is the recognition of the page on which these circles are drawn.

As you can see, these categories are not exclusive, it’s not a binary choice - one doesn't exclude the other. They are nested - each is encompassed within a wider reality. There is no tension or duality in acknowledging a functional/practical/conventional role while being ‘established in’ true identity (of course there is ONLY Source - these functional/secondary roles can be said to be expressions within that.)

Any drive to annihilate limitation/the relative on the way to the divine is misconceived. This is not about self-perfection, it’s about realisation. Realisation of what IS always already the case - the divine is right here - rightly seen. Samsara IS nirvana - rightly seen.

From here, mountains are mountains and rivers are rivers. Through our secondary/conventional identifications we take pleasure in our children’s playfulness and share a fleeting disappointment when a friend loses their job. As someone once put it; despite the surface no’s there is a deeper, louder YES with everything - exactly as it is.

Conceptually yes. Practically?

Oriented for expansion, we would, if we could, exit limitation.

The quest, so to speak, if there is such a search as a non-doer is to employ the tools available to transcend.

This implies change. Change means movement without stuporous stagnation.

At a certain point during meditation we recognise, in as directly experiencing the boundlessness of our latent awareness. Now what is potential, can be made kinetic. Real.

The moment we accept limitation we confine ourselves, doom ourselves by our own narrow thought.

The Universe has provided us with sufficient clues to inform us that this is not the case. We only need to disassociate our consciousness from ego limitation.

Elsewhere on SF we observe the need for definition. So let’s say, the ego is the delusion of limitation, the delusion of separateness from Absoluteness.

Now, in this domain, the moment in the continuum of moments we are fully present in the now, with of course recollection but no association with memory & sensory drawn imagery, we are free, unexpectant and receptive to the flow.

The circles within circles are then imaginary.

The mountains are, the rivers are, we are. But our awareness is limitless because our consciousness is formless, one with Absoluteness.

Yes, there are plenty of reasons to move on from limiting situations in everyday lives - who would argue against that. But thinking that we need move anywhere to be closer to God/Source is the primary delusion. Where would you go - it’s ALL Source.

Yes. Marvelous.
But if you really realise this (THIS) why would you labour to perfect yourself for a future moment?
