Why don't they really show themselves?
Given the vast millions of ghosts that could theoretically exist, why are all ghostly encounters reduced to an almost 1-on-1 basis?
Why can't a ghost appear on daytime television? Or, appear in a big meeting/presentation, announce that yes, they are a ghost, and put this subject to bed.
With all the talk about signs, when you die, wouldn't you like to send on a big message that lets everyone know that death is nothing to be fearful of.

Not everyone can see ghosts we are all different and I believe not everyone is ready mentally to cope. There are ghosts, believe me.

Most disembodied spirits are suck in their own private hells. I doubt they have any awareness of or desire to join in conferences, talk shows and other public areas.

From reading up on the afterlife and the work of serious paranormal investigators it appears to take spirits a vast amount of energy to materialise. I think there are a lot of environmental factors involved as well as how receptive individuals are (I think you have to be at the energy level of a believer to have the best chance of experiencing a spirit contacting you).
I also think they very often make subtle contact (when full materialisation isn't possible) but many people miss these signs or dismiss them as something else.
There are organised spirit groups out there though who are actively trying to raise our awareness of the afterlife, such as Rio do Tempo.
