Visit to Dublin
The Guard Dog of the City
came to see me first.
Making circles.
Waiting to feed on me
But my Angels swooped from the
Old Gates
Singers, dancing clowns
lay me down
In bright blue tongues
of fire that danced
For centuries
Along the river and
Through the mire
They came today
To whisper me, to love
me out of fear
The Guard Dog of the City
lay down
And a smile came across the
faces of people walking
and stopping to look
Under the Summer's sky
Into their lovers eyes
Into grey buildings
Whitened by the Light
of Love Spoken like a
language here today in
the City of my birth.
