Original VS Cover...RATE IT!

There are tons of original songs out there from all genre's that bands over the years have covered....

Sometimes these songs are covered more than once as the years go by... by many different artists.

Some covers are better than the original recording....some worse!

Lets see who's version is the best! The original....or the cover!

I'll put up my first choice and rate it to get started.

Song...............You Really Got me

Originally released in 1964 by The Kinks, You Really Got Me was a big hit for the British band The Kinks.

Then in 1978 , American rockers Van Halen released You Really Got Me on there debut album.

The Kinks version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTTsY-oz6Go

Van Halen version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9X6e7uctAww

My take........As original founder of The Kinks, Ray Davies put it himself when asked about it.....comparing our original to what Van Halen did is like comparing a world war one biplane to an F-15 fighter jet.....Van Halen took our song and blew up 1000%....it's just waaay better! And Ray Davies counted himself as a big fan of Van Halen's version.....

And me too!

I agree completely.....Johnny Cash really does this song justice putting a level of emotion into it that the original just doesn't come close to.

I shot The Sheriff

Originally recorded by Bob Marley in the early 1970's...I shot The Sheriff was covered by Eric Clapton in 1974

Bob Marley https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XiYUYcpsT4

Eric Clapton https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRgcwT9X2J8

I will admit that I'm really conflicted saying this because I'm a huge Bob Marley fan....but I like Clapton's version better

What do y'all think???

Eric Clapton for sure. Gots that bitter cold mid west feeling lol.. but the funk gets the bar lit..

Are we suppose to rate by number or just say which one we like?

The Kinks for me At least the voice. BUT, the cornershop had a nice happier vibration going on there so I can dig it.

Wasn't expecting to enjoy that cover but he made a great job of it and its very nice indeed. Hey Clover I don't think this is a winner and loser thing or even which one you prefer thing ? Or maybe it is lol...i might of missed something ...im going to try and avoid that kinda comparison ..and enjoyed the attempt or merit of the cover if any mainly because there is a thread on like this about rating the song above you and its not good at all for that reason ? Anyway you can do what you like thanks for music nice cover.
