I think as others have said that guides are there to help you make the right choices in life although I guess ultimately it's upto us. Guides can just point us in the right direction.

I found my guides through Shamanic Journeying. I use a drum to journey. They help me with everything in my life.

I believe a lot of people actually communicate with guides and dismiss it. I believe they do so because their ego gets in the way.

Sandra Ingerman has a beginner's guidebook and cd if you are interested, it is very easy to learn.

Basically- a guide is someone who has already ascended and the 'truth' has been revealed to them. They have assignments that they are given with which to guide a person, or multiple persons. They can help give people direction in a very uncertain world, I find that they are invaluable. However, you don't *have* to have one, if you do not want to be guided, then it is highly unlikely that a guide is going to stick around and waste his/her time when someone else could be benefitting from the guidance.
