Another great divide.

Somehow all my thoughts have gelled recently and I can make sense of them.

How about this as a fundamental difference between people:

When it comes to facing challenges there are two different responses. The first one is to empower yourself to be up to the challenge. This will require self-esteem and a lot of I Am.

The second one is to humble yourself in the face of the challenge so as to be equal to the task. To somehow let the task flow over you and dissolve in your meekness. This will require surrender to higher powers and faith.

Do these two approaches seem familiar?

You seem to be in a period in which you feel the need to draw clear lines. Maybe there aren't any clear dichotomous lines where you look for them ...(?)

Honza,

The way you framed it is both a fundamental difference and is also familar. Basically, it is faith in self vs. faith in God(the Divine). Psalm 121...."I lift up my eyes to the hills---where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord". This is the recognition of God as being the ultimate source of strength and the definition of faith. The 'lifting up of my eyes' is a successor from having one's head bowed in prayer. Bowing and prayer are indications of humility.

Perhaps this acquistion of faith is a result of "tasting and seeing that the Lord is good'(Psalm 34:8). The job of a taster is predicated on first impression. We might test many things but our judgement is determined by the small sample. Reliance on self leads to endless questioning......attempting to weight every possibility and ultimately losing sight of the essence.

I've heard the term "polarisation of the mind" which I have noticed in myself on numerous occasions. So I do see what you mean.
