Don't get confused with all that.

Elation is amazing, bliss, excasty is amazing. It is part of who you are so enjoy it.

As you quiet your mind the silence pours out of you. The silence is joy, bodhichitta, it is love.

All the yogis talk about being like a child. In the moment feeling the joy as it arises. It is a very good thing.

The concern is attachment to those things. It can be happiness, joy, saddness to anger. It is good to feel happiness, you don't want to attach to the desire that brought about happiness.

Happiness is our natural state of being.

Anger and sadness when looked at occur because of our attachment to a thought or memory. It is that, that we need to let go of.

As one goes deeper is where RyanWind comments would come into play.

Yes, using the meditation technique that best suits you (whether breath awareness or some other) and maintaining calm abiding. If you focus your attention then over time and continued practice your mind will become more stable and tranquil.
