Crows peck at the damp ground
The mountain air is thick with fog
Barely hearing the toad’s chirping
Above the trill of a gray treefrog
It’s good to be in a wild green place
So far away from the tainted town
I’d rather share songs with the katydids
Than having to shout or be shouted down
Demanding obedience instead of respect
Something I could never freely give
If they change one’s way of thinking
Then they can tell one how to live
Better to howl along with the pack
Than bleating with someone’s flock
Roaming beyond fenced in pastures
Never waking to the crowing ****
