On a somewhat related note, what do human babies sense? I've never been much of a kid person, didn't really give them much credit, but I've learned a lot from watching my young nephew. Now I have a new niece as well. At 3 months old, it amazes me how aware she is of her environment. I walk behind her, she tilts that big baby head backwards, eyes just following me. What do babies know that we don't?

Not only does our cat get fixated on (whatever) up near the ceiling, but the response is very different from when he hears, or sees, something on the order of prey up there - like a mouse, or insect... something like that. His gazing is steady, rather than activated by readiness to jump, climb, or otherwise move.
And this is what I find so curious the pupils of his eyes get extremely dilated.
