MENOPAUSE

Help! I just turned 46 in September, I've been feeling really crazy, very heavy cycles, heart palpitations, sluggish, very cold during the day, very hot at night, sex drive is way down from say 3 months ago, feelings of loneliness, is this menopause starting, any ideas on how to deal with this?

Whoops! I remember the menopause! My first hot flush was so welcome! I was out in September in only a T shirt and shorts up a high hill, and suddenly glowed from head to foot. Wow! -I thought -This is good. I'm warm now!
Only it wasn't funny a few months later when I was going way too hot 3 or 4 times a day and having to put my arms in the freezer to feel normal!

The worst symptom -beyond warmth -was terribly, torturously -broken sleep. That came on suddenly and I did not expect it. Nothing had prepared me for it. Life became very difficult. Sometimes if I was lucky, I got 3 hours' sleep. If I was blessed, I got 4. No matter how much physical work I did, the sleep was horrible. I had just got a new dog at the time too....filled with boundless energy and I had a physically demanding job!
I just soldiered on, literally. At least the dog kept me cheerful.

Then I discovered a local herbalist, and went to him for a consultation. His medicine helped a LOT. I also discovered acupressure points in the wrist which also worked, and helped me get more sleep.

I found St John's Wort and Agnus Castus helped me, but I think going to a qualified herbalist for a proper consultation is wiser than experimenting with herbs alone. Qualified herbalists have medical knowledge, and wisdom about the right herbs to use, for you. It doesn't cost a fortune.

My doctor by the way couldn't get his head around my sleep issues, and wanted to prescribe me anti-depressants! He said that early wakening was a sign of depression. I said that it had never happened to me in my life, and that it was the hormonal changes not depression, causing it. I was not depressed, just needed 8 hours' sleep! Yet he didn't seem to cope with that! There was no remedy offered except temporary HRT which I did not want.
I am glad I did not go down that route of taking prescription drugs which were not even appropriate for the condition.

I'm only 19 so obviously I'm not going through menopause just yet but I have been struggling with PCOS and a hormone imbalance for a while and I have a lot of your symptoms and more. It's horrible. I am finally sorting things out now though.
A good diet will most likely help you as well as regular exercise. Also I'm seeing a herbalist like Tobi said. I've only been taking the herbs for about a month but I've already seen a difference. I definitely recommend finding a herbalist to help you. If there's not one locally, there are some, like mine, who I have spoken to over skype and then she just sends things through mail
