Similarities

Identical Teachings of Buddha and Christ

I do not judge either,

self." (Dhammapada 10:1)2."If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also." (Luke 6:29)

"Hatreds do not ever cease in this world by hating, but by love: this is an eternal truth. Overcome anger by love, overcome evil by good ... Overcome the miser by giving, overcome the liar by truth." (Dhammapada 1.5*&*17.3)

4.

"He will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’" (Matthew 25:45)

"If you do not tend one another, then who is there to tend to you? Whoever would tend me, he should tend the sick." (Vinaya, Mahavagga 8:26:3)

5.

"Put your sword back in its place,”*Jesus said to him,*“for all who draw the sword will die by the sword." (Matthew 26:52)

"Abandoning the taking of life, the ascetic Gautama dwells refraining from taking life, without stick or sword." (Digha Nikaya 1:1:8)

6.

"My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." (John 15:12-13)

"Just as a mother would protect her only child at the risk of her own life, even so, cultivate a boundless heart towards all beings. Let your thoughts of boundless love pervade the whole world." (Sutta Nipata 149-150)

7."For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:17)

"The body of the Buddha is born of love, patience, gentleness and truth."*(Vimalakirti Nirdesa Sutra 2)

8.

"He told them another parable: 'The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches." (Matthew 13:31-32)

"Do not underestimate good, thinking it will not affect you. Dripping water can fill a pitcher, drop by drop; one who is wise is filled with good, even if one accumulates it little by little." (Dhammapada 9:7)

9.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye." (Luke 6:41-42)

"The faults of others are easier to see than one's own; the faults of others are easily seen, for they are sifted like chaff, but one's own faults are hard to see. This is like the cheat who hides his dice and shows the dice of his opponent, calling attention to the other's shortcomings, continually thinking of accusing him." (Udanavarga 27:1)

10.

Truth is Truth. A world teacher will present the same Truth, albeit in their own personal interpretation and manner. So, great similarity across all the great teachers of the Light.
And similarities also in the lives and preparation of the great teachers.

Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by daily riding in the balloon of God-perception.
Through delusion you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best is a nest of troubles.
Meditate unceasingly, that you may quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. ~Paramahansa's Guru's Guru

Buddha and Christ may have taught the same things but none of us can fully live up to their teachings and when we realize that fact we discover the difference between them.

Buddha showed us how we should live but provides no help for those who fail to live up to his teaching.

Christ showed us how we should live but through his death and resurrection he provides forgiveness for out failure to fully obey his teachings. Here is a link to a site that will show you how you can experience this forgiveness.

Very cool Sky! It just goes to show the commonality of all spiritual teachings and how they transcend religion.

It's too bad that mankind (i usually use the term humankind but in this case it is the men that are responsible) has attempted to put these teachings in exclusive boxes called religion and claim their box as truth and everyone else false.

The only way you can fail to live up to their teachings is if you choose NOT to do what they say.

I don't believe that Jesus had to die because people can't be good naturally. That line of thinking kinda makes everything pointless.

Jesus and Buddha were two enlightened beings along with several others who incarnated on this Earth. They didn't just stumble upon their Enlightenment. They were destined from a long journey of spiritual evolution.

They both spoke and thought from a higher-vibrational awareness. Their energy-field was full of Light when they walked in human flesh.

The difference between Christ and Buddha is this.

Among his peers and followers, Jesus was seen as someone without "sin". Sin in the sense that he didn't allow his ego at any time in his life to take hold over him and block out the Spirit. I think Siddhartha lived half of his life in luxury and material happiness and dense thinking. It was suffering of others that propelled him to want to reach a higher consciousness. But he wouldn't have become the awakened one if he wasn't an advanced soul to begin with.

Jesus was so innocent and pure of heart that I feel from a "psychic sense" (Now I am not a professional psychic, just my own intuition) that Jesus took on incarnation for the sake of humanity and not for anything of himself.

He was so passionate about the "kingdom of God" that he taught in healing the sick, eating with prostitutes, befriending the marginalized, enjoying a feast with all types of people,- that he was willing to suffer at the hands of ignorant and violent humanity to align himself with the Universal laws (ancient thinking called it "obedience to God the Father")

The last thing he conquered was his enemies and he did it through forgiveness as he taught. He expressed God's Laws and way of being even in his sacrificial death.
In a symbolic sense "he took on the sins of the world". The fact that he had a choice to flee or fight back at his enemies and instead chose to hand himself over, to hand over his Earthly ego for the sake of alignment and at-one-ment with the Law of Love and God; always brings tears to my eyes. Because I can see that if such oneness with the Universal Laws and love for enemies was evident in one Man, it can be evident in all of us.

But Jesus and the Buddha were both high-consciousness persons. Through their teachings you can find the Truths of life.

I find myself quoting Buddha more in my head. My favorite of his was to question everything you heard no matter who said it. You must experience it first for yourself if it is True. Whereas Jesus was more radical and in your face about the Truth he experienced. He would say "I Am the Way! No one else comes to the Father but by me!" Remember he lived during a time when other people were claiming to be the Christ. Jesus was also a very innocent and childlike individual. A lot of people misunderstood his passion, naivety and zeal for arrogance and blasphemy. It just shows in my opinion how foreign his soul was to the Earth since he only came here for the benefit of the world.
