When I was a kid we use to have "Crystal Radio Kits", where you could build a radio that used quartz as a power supply due to its piezioelectric qualities.
Quartz amplifies Far-Infrared energy, and there is a theory that quartz deposits under tectonic stress is the cause of "Ball Lightning". In addition I was a radar tech. in the US Navy and the "Magic" substance that converted Electrons into radar waves was... Quartz.
As far as belief goes, very many of us crystal folks believe crystals can be "imprinted" or programmed by those who use them with knowledge or purpose, that's a belief where "record keeper" formations fall into.
When it comes right down to it, you are limited only by your imagination and beliefs...
