Suggestions for healing of lower back pain?

My lower back pain usually occurs when I carry heavy objects or walk long distances or standing for more than 30 minutes. Anyone care to suggest possible remedies for healing the lower back?

Gentle stretching and building of core muscles is a very good support for the back, depending on what's been done to it. Investigate Pilates or Alexander Technique. Reiki would also help, as would massage. Cranio-sacral therapy is good and you might also wish to consult a chiropractor to find out what's causing the pain in the first place. For example, I stressed two of my lower lumbar discs years ago but I recognise when they are starting to 'pop' and imediately sit on the floor with a support to my back until they ease off and pop back into place.

Obvious help is also - avoid lifting heavy things! But if you have to, lift properly by bending from the knees, not the back. Don't be ashamed to say - this is too heavy for me. Better to take care of your back now then pay for it with agony in later life...

you might benefit from polarity yoga devised by randolp stone. it's very quick and easy to do. there are various postures, the main one being the squat which frees the hips and lower back. http://digitaldrstone.com/v1b2c64.shtml

^ if that helps/gives immediate relief, try his introductory book http://www.amazon.com/Health-Buildin.../dp/1570670811

I know it sounds a little obscure, but you may try a new pair of shoes... or a different brand with different support. People tend to forget how much shoes affect our backs!

Hope you feel better! :o)

Arch supports from at Wal-mart cured the neuroma bumps on my arches on bottom of foot.

I tried shot of cortizone first bu had already read that that would only be temporary and that was correct.

I stong back from good physique and years of hard work, however, my first lower back pain oocurred-- probably from twisting while stressed motion -- in 1981 I felt need to take the afternoon off and next day all was bettern.

Since then, each time the lower back has taken a little more time to fix each time. Two times now I was out of work for 5 days and the next week I just worked bent over with pain cause need money.

My fix is to do IBprofen and lots of walking, however, there is one procedure that I do religously every morning before getting out of bed and will do severalk times a day if back is hurt.

Before getting out of bed, bring knees to chest. Maybe rock a little bit and try to arch head between legs to get maximum amont of stretch.

Two years ago, I got a new injury to my spine, from carrying a 6x6 treated lumber to my truck and from truck to work site.

Stupid, cause now I will get this annoying little pain sometimes ex when straining on toliet, on that spot on spine/vertabrae.

That was 2nd most stupid thing I've done in my life and the first also involed my spinal chord but was fortunate I did not injure myself seriously.

Sitting around all day on Sunday is hard on my back.

Don't forget to drink water - the discs between the spine need fluid, as do all the cells in the body and I know that I can be lazy about having a glass of water or two and my body can start to ache quickly as a result.
