Yes it is isotope dating, but that doesn't reveal anything about when the pyramids were built. It could mean that rocks on the bottom were quarried first from the Earth's surface, and the rocks on top were quarried after from deeper down.
The math isn't only accurate, it's complex and to calculate things like the gradual angles on each side where the pyramid face has two slightly slanted triangles that meet in the middle of each face make the whole thing that much more complicated, for example. Then the astronomological calculations; ancient people weren't supposed to know any of that.
