i've got friends who had had their cat run off for a while. by the time it had
decided to return home, they'd already got two new kittens. the older cat
was not at all happy about finding newbies living there, and they had to be
kept separated to avoid cat fights. my friends knew a trick to help ease the
tensions: they used a screen barrier to keep them apart, but allowing them
to observe each other during meal times. eventually they grew accustomed
to each other and now roam about freely without troubles... though they
don't really "hang out" together.
