looks like Labradorite but keep in mind that there is different pieces of Labradorite that some higher or lower quality
mostly small pieces are for jewelry and are very bright
but the bigger pieces get darker such as your picture

Thankyou for your suggestion
I had ruled out Labradorite because my piece lacks chatoyancy and opacity, I do have Labradorite and accept that not all Labradorite is chatoyant but not so much of it is transparent.
Here is my own Labradorite;

greetings Neville yes you are correct on some points and have posted a picture of a polished piece of Labradorite your original piece is not polished and considered raw in the crystal light working!
here is an example for your consideration the polished piece has gone trough a machine called a tumbler to bring out the highlights
the original piece is to big and all natural mother earth
have tons of fun with it
