They're most likely mates.
Where I grew up there were many blue jays and they're one of my favorite birds of all.

Once I walked in the woods with someone and we were noting features. I saw a post with a blue letter J on it and pointed it out, "look, a blue J" and they turned expecting to see a blue jay.... and then a bluejay came and landed right on top of the post.
They can be common in places. But if some significance is triggering with you, be open and pay attention. might be something a bluejay will do or interact with that will lead your journey along.

Blue Jays are in the same family as crows. They are a lot smarter than people think. Same thing with magpies. As with all intelligent creatures they sometimes try to communicate with us. They can "like" you and follow you. I have a group of about 7 crows (give or take one depending on the day) that follow me on my walks with my dog. They mostly just do silly rascal things like drop acorns on distracted pedestrians (they know it makes me laugh ;)).
