That is a very interesting observation.. however, wouldn't one think they could just go and fap it off? It would be less obvious, for one thing.

I have noticed this throughout my life and I never had to do spiritual practice to notice it. It is an energy drain and an illusion. There's foods, activities, smells, sights, and sounds that put us in certain moods. Energy simply flows downwards with orgasm. Unless you have a compatible partner it will be an energy waste from my observation.

Read online, do your own practice. I am not a Hare Krishna but I've been around them and they perform all sorts of ritual, prasadam, repeating the Hare Krishna mantra, devotionalism. I think it's really cool, and I agree on many things but don't feel the pull towards 'Hindu' gods. Try some of those practices.. see what you like.

Energy does indeed flow downward with physical orgasm and it is literally draining. I fully agree that, without a truly compatible partner on all levels, it's a total waste of energy. Even with a truly compatible partner, it really isn't necessary except as an expression of love, affection, and pleasing the other. The transcendental is indeed far better in any case but the complete connection (spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical) is also quite awesome. (The classic Hindu story of Shiva and Parvati really exemplifies that point.)

A previous poster talked about kundalini arousing sexuality. This is true if one is stuck at the muladhara and svadisthana chakras. Once one goes past them, the sexual urge starts to vanish. The kundalini only highlights what is already there and it remains until one discovers that the transcendent is far better than the best sex.

I love going to the Krishna temples where I enjoy the prasadam, the chanting, and the general atmosphere. I too am not a Hare Krishna and that is after meeting Prabhupada personally, but I do like the atmosphere at their temple and services.

I also go to Hare Krishna restaurants wherever I find them as the quality and preparation of the food is indeed excellent.

Your point about "it is important to practice austerities" is interesting in reference to the sexual energy. Actually, my sense is that the simple approach is best. Clear the mind. Enter the stillness. That "peace that surpasseth understanding" emerges naturally and is better than the best sex. The sexual urge then subsides quite naturally especially since one has found something better.

However, if austerities work for you, then do them by all means. It just sounds like torture to me while the simple, natural approach seems preferable at least for me.

Clearing the mind and entering stillness is an austerity in itself, as it takes discipline. The habitual urge of the mind is to think and emote incessantly due to the pressure of past psychological impressions, which blurs the Self or Awareness.

I agree with you.

When there is no joy in you, you become a pleasure seeker. - Jaggi Vasudev

Being in the natural state of awareness brings with it joy and peace, which is superior to the pleasures of the senses. There are other spiritual exercises too in this regard as well like prayer, pranayama, charity, selfless service and so on which can bring joy within.

After reading your points on "austerities", we are pretty much in agreement.
