It sucks!!!!
Growing up in a Christian family and getting Jesus Christ drilled in your head daily while non of it made sense is really difficult, and that's not the hard part. The hard part is being brought up and beaten to death with "The only way to heaven is exceptance and belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God and if you don't you will go to hell just instilled fear in me that if I go astray I will be making the wrong choice and be punished for my sins~Now that's just the worst. I feel more spiritual than religious but I always here that fearful damn voice in the back of my head that I must believe. But I just can't believe the whole Jesus thing 100%. ughhhh fml

' The hard part is being brought up and beaten to death with "The only way to heaven is.......'
Unfortunately you find a lot of Parents have this attitude, usually you will find that they have been treated themselves in exactly the same way and the cycle goes on.
Believe what you want to believe not what others want you to believe, that's the best way.....
' Father forgive them for they don't know what they do ' comes to mind.

I must agree with sky123 - Father forgive them for they don't know what they do.

Hi, i'm sorry to hear this
without realising it they placed a massive stumbling block in your path and it sounds like your finding the perspectives to deal with that to place it behind you. it may be a comforting thought that actually, Jesus may be on your side here on this! That's a matter of opinion maybe but i do believe that.
one insight maybe that this overbearing attitude actually stems from a lack of faith. best not say this though, just think it
when you really believe something there's no real need for it, things flow and happen naturally and beliefs are just containers for what you believe in
when it is forced it makes you wonder if they are hiding their own doubts and it's also because preachers up front do not really want their hearers to advance, but keep them in a place where they are dependant on them
hopefully you can retrace your steps with Jesus and follow him they way he wanted to be followed if you feel called to him

You really said something interesting preachers up front do not really want their hearers to advance and I must agree with this, in my opinion, a preacher should be a guide, a teacher, that's it, you know, to guide you, not to be your one and only connection with the divine. When I was a child, my grandma used to take me with her at the church, she once was there to confess her sins, I was mystified, why people do need to go to a man to talk about their mistakes ( I had no idea of the word sin )when they could talk directly with the divine or with the people that they have hurt? I always believed in the divine, even when I was just a child.I just could not understand......
In my opinion, when you seek the Creator, you have to seek Him, yourself, don't look at others for the Truth when you don't know it for yourself, look at others only to get indications and to learn from them, that's it...

I do believe Jesus the Christ said many times do not fear
and tried to instill peace.
Maybe if you read Jesus in the bible and get to know
the Jesus Christ of Peace in your heart and drop the Jesus of fear
you can come to grips with your own relationship with Him.
The relationship with your parents is another story.

you are obviously ,in transition to other values in your life as many are and have been , and learning new things that are better for you, expecting others around you to do the same might not be the best way to go about it ,

I'll add a further qualifier to that... "Father forgive them for they don't know what they do, because they know nothing else".

sadly many beliefs from false teachings, was used to scare people into becoming a "Christian." this is what happens when we have inaccurate knowledge of the truth ,( Pro. 3:5,6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths). that was NOT Jehovah God ,( Exo. 6:3), and Jesus plan. satan played a very big part on false teachings, especially the one about the "HELLFIRE." Jesus NOR his Father ever created one.
when Jesus kicked satan and his wicked followers out of Heaven. they were kicked straight to Earth. NOT to a fiery place beneath the Earth ,( Rev.12:7-9, And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceive the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him).
when we bring Jesus to someone, it should be in a loving way. NOT forced upon anyone. it shouldn't be about scaring one , but to show them that there will soon be actual peace on Earth. NOT by man as MANY seem to believe. but by Jehovah God through his son Jesus ,( Matt. 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth). as Jesus showed, despite popular belief, NOT all Good will Go to Heaven, some will soon live on a wicked-free Earth. Many as you say, don't believe the story of Jesus.
that he was SENT!... by his Father, (some don't want to believe Jesus has a Father. even though he told us so ,( Matt. 7:21 Not every one that said unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that do the will of my Father which is in heaven). Jesus died a righteous man, so that we can gain life. humans were to live forever, Adam took that way from us when he sinned. also God's word shows that he told Adam, if he sin he will DIE, which proves man wasn't suppose to die, ever.
Jehovah NEVER said, that if he ate from a certain tree, he will burn forever in a " HELLFIRE." that word was added by man, lead by satan, so that one will believe Jesus and his Father will burn someone forever once they had died for their sins. but here's how Jehovah God counteracted that lie ,( Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord). see also ( Rom.6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin).
as these verses showed, once one die, their sins are wiped away. because " DEATH", is PAYMENT for our sins when we were living. so again, NO ONE is forever Burning in a " HELLFIRE." MANY of the "Righteous" and those who lived fowl when they were alive. are asleep in their graves awaiting, hopefully, a resurrection ,( John 5:28,29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice. And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation). peace

' Jesus kicked satan and his wicked followers out of Heaven.'
How did he manage that when the Kingdom of Heaven is within and satan and his friends only exist in your imaginative thoughts ?
