The DOT is coming down hard

The DOT is coming down hard like gator jaws snapping at the heels of the truckers. Its pretty serious and since I came into the industry Im firm on being legit anyways.

So the deal is I got to stop for 30 minutes before I work and drive for eight hours. Before I could drive straight thru up to eleven hours in a day. So before I would only stop for five minutes at a time to use the bathroom, jump rope, and squeeze off some push ups. Doing so would allow me to have time for a 30 minute work out after my shift. So I would a couple times a week run for 20 minutes after my drive.

So I'm testing new ground to keep myself in ship shape. More often than not its not feasible to stop for my 30 minutes off in a location that I could do my 20 minute run. But I can still do sprints, up downs, pushups, and jump rope. And perhaps get lucky once a week for a nice long hard run.

My first day trying my new program went better than I thought it would. I bought a vest with weight on it. This is awesome! Makes you tired way faster. So I started with my weighted vest on doing up downs tell exhaustion. Then I did a half dozen sprints through the rest stop. Then iI took my vest off and did up downs tell exhaustion. Finally a couple sets of jump rope. It took me less then twenty minutes going straight thru the program. Still enough time to use the bathroom, jump back in the truck, and ready to rock and roll at the 30 minute mark.

The cool bonus I found about it is this. I don't eat much until done working. So I get hungry while I'm driving. But the work out curbs the hunger big time. And doing more up downs is really strengthening my core big time. I can feel it already. I feel the stomach and back is the most important muscles in the body. When there strong its almost impossible to get hurt. So that's another bonus.

And today I got lucky and was able to stop somewhere I could have a run. Things are looking good! I'm cool with the DOT. Its gonna work out just fine!

Now that I'm doing almost entirely live loads and unloads i got time for a run often times. Just went for a run at the shipper today. The bonus of the heat and humidity of the south was like getting a two for one special. Im sweating like I was running in a sauna. Lol. So perhaps a lot of toxins got out of my system. Cool beans!

The downer is I'm pouring sweat in my truck. Washed up the best I can and soaked my shirt in cold water. My lord I hope I can stop somewhere at the end of my day for a shower. Life on the road can be smelly at times. All I can do is what I can do. Lol

First off, my hat's off to you for working to stay in shape in a job where that has traditionally been a real challenge.

The nice thing about the DOT requirements is that everyone has to do it. Before, because of competition, everyone had to strive to stay up with the other guy, the other trucking companies, who all would push their drivers for shorter run times. The more runs you can make in a year, the more profit the company makes.

I'm glad to see the new requirements too. It's better for the drivers, and it's better for everyone else.

I agree 100 percent! Much of the industry is on electronic logs which helps.

i used to go trucking with my dad, good times. a few things i might do to keep healthy if i were a trucker. i'm not keen on explosive exercising, like weights, but if you sit still all day then some is definitely warranted. i'd try and lie down on the earth a couple of times a day, for an aura bath and grounding your energy field: twice half hour if poss....i would even camp by the cab if poss as that would be very rejuvenating. i would definitely "earth" the cab electricvally (grounding wire from cab to road) as this will make a huge difference during the day. the energy field does not like being submeresed in electrics and moving parts all day. some kind of air filtration in the cab...like a jar rock salt on a heat source will make the air like the seaside. i would purchase a scalar pendant to protect my ernergy field too,,,a "pulsor" pendant maybe. tai chi would be great way to reconnect with the earth and sky. flower essence spray for the cab or drops on the tongue. scalar device on the electronic circuitry. turn the cab into a paradise beach...
