But that image is a woman with fake eyelashes and lip stick and make up? How is that not sexualizing women?

Isn't that beautifying? I don't think beautifying is the equivalent of sexualizing. There are some things women do to beautify themselves that some men quantify that as sexualizing when the women are just appreciating themselves and not trying to appeal to anyone sexually.

Great answer.

Indeed when I display flowers in my home I am beautifying my space not "sexualizing" it.

It's aesthetics.

The Artistry

As if the written language itself were not stunning enough

The way the Qur'an is written is like a literary Masterpiece.

Described in various places online as being written in "rhyming prose".

Making the content all the more mesmerizing.

Surah Al-Iklas

(the link above will provide you with a tool to hear the surah aloud as well)

http://quran411.com/surah-ikhlas.asp

Transliteration:

  4. Wa lam yakul-lahu kufuwan ahad

In English

This rhyming lends itself to the surahs being sung aloud, as they do in Prayer.

Also, makes them easier to remember.

(this is where I meant to post this sorry for the double post)

I am just so enamored by the language.

I have started dabbling.

For purely aesthetic reasons these are my favorite letters.

And here is a bit of my messing around with writing.

Najaha - Either means to succeed or he succeeded

sabr - patience

farah - happiness

And this last one says my name... and I am seriously hoping I got that last letter right because I haven't learned how to write it properly yet.

*fingers crossed

Happy practicing!

Inshallah - If it is God's Will

This phrase is used all the time among those in the Muslim community and I love it. For me, it reaffirms something I cling to. Faith in God's plan. That I can not know my own path and that if I trust in his will, even in times of hardship, things will work out.

Generous Ramadan

The holy month where Muslims fast so they can empathise with those who are without food and water.

During this time they are also asked to give to those in need.

Photo above is a food drive hosted in Detroid as part of Rmadan.

Ramadan Mubarak Sugar-n-Spice!

My first time doing Ramadan! Wish me luck.

Made lamb stew yesterday and brought some for one of the ladies I knew would be working when Iftar came. Also brought strawberries, cupcakes and cherry cola. She taught me the Dua for breaking the fast and we broke our fast together. Was beautiful.
